Tess Daly’s husband Vernon Kay made his very unexpected Strictly Come Dancing 2023 debut during the live semi-final tonight. The BBC Radio 2 host arrived as a surprise celebrity guest to read the terms and conditions for the public vote.
Claudia Winkleman even gave him the job of handing the reins back over to Tess, who introduced the next couple to take to the dance floor. After sharing the all important guidance, Claudia congratulated Vernon on his Children In Need fundraising Ultramarathon.
The host went on to tell the DJ: “It is now time to throw back to your wife, let me set the scene; you’re snuggling, it’s Sunday, maybe the puppy is on your lap, maybe you just had a delicious roast, say her name with romance and love.” Vernon took on the challenge, adding: “Obviously I’ll be wearing silk pyjamas, and I’ve had a Baileys, maybe a splash of cologne – Tess, over to you!”
In response, Tess collapsed into a fit of giggles and seemed lost for words, before saying: “So smooth, thank you Vernon,” while continuing to chuckle while welcoming the next semi-finalist to perform.
However, the presenter’s awkward reaction to her husband’s appearance left BBC viewers all saying the same thing. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to weigh in on the moment, one fan wrote: “I think Tess was blushing a bit there.”
Another quipped: “How is tess even awkward around her own husband? #strictly.”
“Love how Tess turned into a giggling schoolgirl with the handover from Vernon there…so cute!! #strictly,” a third viewer commented. “Tess got a tiny bit flustered there and I can’t blame her! Cutie husband #strictly,” a fourth fan agreed.
