Fans have rushed to support Amy Dowden after she shared details about her devastating health diagnosis.

The Strictly Come Dancing star revealed she had breast cancer back in May. She underwent a mastectomy to remove a tumour found by doctors and was due to undergo radiotherapy.

She believed after getting treatment that she would be able to return to Strictly as one of the professionals. However received further bad news when doctors told her they had found more tumours and another type of cancer after an MRI.

During a chat with Paralympic gold medalist and breast cancer survivor Erin Kennedy for the charity CoppaFeel!, Amy explained her “journey had changed” since being diagnosed. This meant she wouldn’t be able to compete with a celebrity contestant in the next Strictly series.

She said: "For me, my journey, everything changed. I was originally going to have a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment.

"But then, after my MRI, they found another tumour so then it changed into a mastectomy and then, after my mastectomy, unfortunately, they found even more tumours.

"They found another type of cancer and then they told me I needed chemo – for me that was a massive blow. It wasn’t in the plan, originally – and I know the plan you can’t get fixated on."

Amy went on to reveal that she would now need chemotherapy. The 32-year-old went on to share a post on her Instagram of an inspiring and powerful quote.

The quote read: "Keep shining darling. You are stronger than you think. Even though you may doubt it, you will get through the hard stuff with grace, strength and courage." Amy shared it with her 419,000 followers with the caption: "Love this."

Fans flooded Amy with supportive comments, with one writing: "I love this and going to steal this Amy. I'm starting round 5 of chemo on Monday in my fight against an acute leukaemia. We can do this!"

Another added: "Amy, you CAN do this! I had 60 weeks of chemo for stage 2 BC which finished in 2021. I am now stronger and fitter than ever before. Take each step as it comes and you will get though it. Wishing you strength and go kick cancer into touch!"

While a third said: "You got this Amy, keep fighting beautiful lady you are so inspiring, my friend just been through this journey and has come out the other side hard roads ahead but not impossible to manoeuvre."

And a fourth commented: "THIS THIS THIS!!! it’s so so true, you absolutely will get through to this, you’ve got so many people by your side every single step of the way.

"You’re the strongest person I know and I just know that your determination and positivity is going to get you through. hope you know how loved you are, sending you all the love in the world."

Acknowledging the kind words from her fans, Amy took to her Instagram story to thank them. She said: "Just want to thank everyone for their love and support. I'll tackle this next step the best that I can and I'm very blessed to have the love and support of family and friends and you guys.

"The rest of the year looked very different to what was planned but hopefully I'll enter 2024 cancer free and I'll never take anything for granted and promise to live life to the full."
