Strictly Come Dancing's Shirley Ballas had to laugh off her embarrassment after turning up at the airport a day early for her flight.
The dancing star, 61, told her Instagram followers that she enthusiastically got up at 3am to get ready and arrive at the airport early ahead of her flight to Los Angeles.
But she arrived a bit earlier than she intended to, turning up at the airport more than 24 hours before her flight was set to depart as she'd misread her ticket.
She said that the check-in staff said the ballroom dancer was a "little bit over-enthusiastic" for her flight, and leaving her "feeling silly" at her mix-up.
Shirley has not seen her son Mark for three years because of coronavirus, with him living and working in Los Angeles while Shirley had commitments in the UK – meaning they had to spend an extended time apart.
Telling the story to her followers, she said: "Who gets really excited, gets up at 3am, gets the cases in the car, off to the airport, check in, only to be told 'Mrs Ballas, you're flying tomorrow, you're not flying today! You're a little bit over-enthusiastic'.
"So I got back in my car and came home. I don't fly until tomorrow but boy oh boy do I feel silly. Up really early just because I was thinking 'I haven't seen my boy in three years. Off I'll go, all enthusiastic', but it was not to be today.
"You've got to laugh, because that's what happens."
She also captioned the video, where she advised people who have not travelled in a long time to "read your ticket" before heading off to the airport.
She wrote: "Oh dear oh dear oh dear. I guess I just got soooo excited to go see my son and his wife and all my friends and I didn’t read my ticket. Three years can you believe it. Oh well there is a first time for everything.
"The motto of this story is, read your ticket when you have not travelled in such a long time. Lol #travel #excited #readyourticket."
Plenty of people have since commented on Shirley's post, either joining in with her laughing or sharing their own self-inflicted travel troubles.
Denise Welch replied to her post with several laughing emojis, while former Strictly judge Dame Arlene Phillips wrote "Ok. That’s not funny. Make the most of today , tomorrow is not far away," with some heart eye emojis.
Meanwhile, dancer and lead judge of Italy's Dancing With The Stars (Ballando con le stelle), Carloyn Smith, wrote: "Hi Shirley. That happened to me just before Covid. I booked up to see Elton John for his goodbye concert. Front row tickets.
"Cost a fortune but worth it. Went to Verona Arena to pick up the tickets and the young lady told SORRY BUT I THINK YOU ARE A LITTLE CONFUSED. THE CONCERT IS ON THIS DATE BUT NEXT YEAR!!! what a twit am I!"
Meanwhile, some fans got in touch to offer some supporting words to the TV judge, with one saying: "It could have been worse – your flight could have been yesterday! have a fab trip and a safe flight TOMORROW!!"
