The Weeknd, who is set to embark on his After Hours Till Dawn stadium tour later this week, has announced the replacements for Doja Cat, who has pulled out of the opening slot as she is to undergo a tonsil surgery.
The Weeknd has named Canadian soul singer Kaytranada, Swedish R&B star Snoh Aalegra and hip-hop DJ/producer Mike Dean as the replacements for Doja. The three singers will be supporting Weeknd on select dates.
Mike Dean will join for all 19 dates of the North American tour, while Kaytranada will open 15 shows, including stops in Los Angeles, New Jersey, Las Vegas, Miami, and more. Snoh Aalegra will perform in Atlanta, Arlington, Seattle, and San Francisco.
The original After Hours tour was initially scheduled for arenas before the trek was scrapped in favor of larger stages. “Maybe five percent of our original ‘After Hours’ production still remains for this tour,” The Weeknd’s creative director La Mar Taylor told Variety. “We really went back to the drawing board when we made the decision to switch from arenas to stadiums.”
“We definitely took inspiration from the Super Bowl performance — and expanded it,” Taylor added. “There were so many restrictions and constraints around that performance that we could not fully realize the vision we had for it. Now we can.”
The After Hours Til Dawn tour is scheduled to commence on July 8 with The Weeknd taking the stage at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.
