There's Speculation That the Sussexes Could Move Into Windsor Castle If They Return to the U.K.

Now that Prince Charles has leveled up to King Charles, everyone’s been assuming that he’d move into Buckingham Palace. Oh, and that Prince William and Kate Middleton would move into Windsor Castle. But not so much!

Charles doesn’t want to move into Buckingham Palace until it’s undergone a £369 million renovation (which will take a full five years) and is instead just using it as the world’s biggest office while he and Queen Camilla live at Clarence House. Meanwhile, Kate and William have zero interest in moving to Windsor because they literally just moved into nearby Adelaide Cottage with their kids and don’t want to further disrupt their routine. As a source tells The Sun, “It was previously said that William and Kate would move into Windsor Castle, but there are no plans for them to leave Adelaide Cottage.”

This marks a huge shift from Queen Elizabeth, who spent the week in Buckingham Palace and spent the weekends in Windsor. But thanks to King Charles wanting to stay at Clarence House, both properties are just…sitting there.

Which brings us to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry! The Sun notes that a “vacant Windsor Castle opens the prospect of Prince Harry and Meghan moving there, should they decide to return to the UK.” I mean, this seems slightly unlikely considering they already have Frogmore Cottage (which is on Windsor grounds), but apparently these two were “previously disappointed” not to move into the Windsor Castle after their wedding, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

The Sussexes’ plans were previously confirmed in Katie Nicholl’s The New Royals. In an excerpt published in the Daily Mail, Lady Elizabeth Anson told Nicholl that while the couple had hoped to have a “suite of apartments” in Windsor Castle, the queen offered Frogmore instead.

Would truly be shocked if Meghan and Harry moved back to England, but guess we’ll see what happens!
