The 37-year-old singer-songwriter, best known for being part of McFly, took to his Instagram account, which boasts two million followers, to show his support for EastEnders actor James and pro dancer Amy, 32. Having been paired with Amy for the 2021 series of the show, it is clear that Tom and Amy have remained close friends, with the All About You singer automatically supporting his former teammate.
Posting a picture of himself tuning into the first live show of Strictly from the comfort of his home, wearing a pair of forest green Crocs, it was clear that Tom was missing out on the glitz and glam of the BBC show.
Captioning the picture: “Bit of a different @bbcstrictly experience this year,” Tom then went one step further to share to his followers who he is voting for this year.
Reposting Amy’s Instagram post, which saw her and James on the set of EastEnders, posed next to Martin Fowler’s fruit and veg market stand, Tom wrote: “CAN’T WAIT to see these two dance!
“@jimmybye gets my vote just for having to endure @amy_dowden’s hours of talking!”
Clearly having banter with Amy, Tom included a winky face emoji, before going on to show his continued support of the pair.
Tuning in to catch the couple’s first dance, Tom watched as the pair danced a jive to What I Like About You by The Romantics.
Captioning the video: “Go on @amy_dowden and @jimmybye,” the singer can be heard saying: “Go on James and Amy.”
Before shouting: “Yesss!” at the television.
Tom took part in the dancing competition back in 2021, and was eliminated from the contest in week eight after losing to Rhys Stephenson in a dance-off.
Shortly after being eliminated from the show, he and Amy appeared on Strictly’s weekly show It Takes Two, where he appeared to get emotional about his final dance.
He said: “I loved it. It was a really special one.
“I did it for my sister who is a musical theatre actor. It was the first time I had a real personal connection to the dance. It felt completely different dancing with an emotional connection like that so I loved it.
“The fact we got to do it twice was quite special and leaving on a dance that meant something to me was sort of perfect.”
Having always had a jokey relationship with partner Amy, when Rylan said: “Amy becomes literally your best friend,” Tom joked that he “can’t get rid of her”.
It is clear that Tom and Amy have remained close outside of Strictly with the musician playing at Amy’s recent wedding.
Posting some behind-the-scenes shots of her wedding to Benjamin Jones shortly after her wedding, Amy dedicated a post to both Tom and his wife Giovanna Fletcher, who is best known for winning I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.
Captioning the images, which see the trio embrace, Amy wrote: “What I love most about @bbcstrictly is the life long friendships created.
“A year ago @tomfletcher was announced on strictly and I was so lucky to have these two wonderful souls @mrsgifletcher @tomfletcher become part my life!” (sic)
In the comments section, former Strictly contestant and Dragons Den star Sara Davies complimented the trio on their friendship.
She wrote: “This is so gorgeous! Love these pics! And you definitely became an extended part of their family those few months.”
