Twiggy, 73, reveals the secret to her 35-year marriage to her husband Leigh Lawson as she poses for stylish Good Housekeeping shoot: ‘Luck has a lot to do with it!’
Twiggy has credited ‘luck’ as the secret to her 35-year marriage to her husband Leigh Lawson, as she graced the cover of Good Housekeeping’s September issue.
The iconic supermodel, 73, married the actor, 78, in 1988, following the death of her first husband Michael Witney five years earlier.
Twiggy told the publication that due to their previous experiences with love, she and Leigh have always been ‘a little gentler’ with their romance.
She said: ‘[Leigh and I] have been together for 38 years, which is frightening! I suppose luck has a lot to do with it.
‘You never know when you meet somebody how it’s all going to turn out or what life is going to throw at you.

‘We’ve both been through things that didn’t work out for various reasons and when you’ve had that experience, you’re a little gentler when you meet someone else.’
Twiggy is considered one of the most iconic supermodels in history, and first rose to prominence in the 1960s with her piercing blue eyes and beautiful bone structure.
The fashion legend added that Pilates has helped her to maintain her svelte physique, after injuring her back 10 years earlier.
She continued: ‘I badly put my back out 10 years ago – I bent down for something and it went into a spasm. I spent the week in bed and it really scared me.
‘I went to a wonderful osteopath who recommended Pilates, which I started when I felt better, and it’s the best thing I have ever done in my life.
‘I wish I had started earlier. It has changed my life. I do it once a week for an hour with a wonderful teacher and I always say to her, ”Rachel you’ve changed my life!” I have really built up the strength in my core and my back.’
During her interview with the publication, Twiggy also discussed her upcoming West End Show, Close Up: The Twiggy Musical.

‘I only get involved with projects that really spark something in me, with people I love and want to work with,’ she said.
‘Ben Elton is an old friend and I love him to bits. He’s a huge talent – so clever and such a sweet man.
‘The musical came about when we were having dinner about six years ago and he said, half-jokingly, ”I should do your story! It’s an amazing story set in an amazing period – I should write it.”’

‘I’ve spent my life doing things that I didn’t plan to do. I didn’t plan to model. I definitely didn’t plan to do a musical film with Ken Russell.
‘And I certainly didn’t plan to star on Broadway in a big musical. I must be mad!’
Elsewhere, Twiggy’s singing career may never have hit the heights of her modelling days – but that isn’t deterring her from launching another assault on the charts, aged 73.
The star’s recording career peaked with a self-titled album that reached No 33 in 1976.
Other releases over the decades, including one produced by disco queen Donna Summer, sank without trace.
But Twiggy is trying again with a new album and has been busy preparing her vocal cords by drinking an infusion of sage leaves.
Chatting on her podcast, Tea With Twiggy, she said ‘It’s really good for your throat,’ but admits that she draws the line at drinking the leftover sludge at the bottom of the cup.
