Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show returning as ‘reimagined’ feature film focusing on ’emerging global trailblazers’ creating their own designs
Several months after announcing their legendary fashion show would be making a comeback, Victoria’s Secret has now revealed how they plan on reviving their runway presentation.
The iconic lingerie company has announced Victoria’s Secret World Tour 2023, a feature film that ‘reimagines’ the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and focuses on ’emerging global trailblazers’ making and displaying their own creations alongside custom VS designs.
The ‘reimagined show’ will be streamed internationally and conclude with a live fashion event held in autumn 2023.
The VS Fashion Show was cancelled four years ago after the brand adopted a more inclusive image, but executives recently revealed they planned on bringing it back this year.
In a press release, the brand stated the film will ‘unite fashion, film, art and culture featuring dynamic global creatives, top supermodels, musical talent and more.’

The movie will focus on ’emerging global trailblazers from a range of artistic disciplines, creating on their own terms.’
It will follow the ‘VS20’, ‘a group of 20 innovative global creatives who will conceive four fashion curations from the vibrant cities of Bogota, Lagos, London and Tokyo.’
The VS20, who have been granted the creative freedom to ‘conceptualize, produce, and stage’ a collection of their own vision, will all come together to present their creations alongside other custom designs from the brand.
‘This film is the ultimate expression of the Victoria’s Secret brand transformation. It will be driven by fashion, glamour and entertainment with a nod to beloved iconography from the past but in a bold, redefined way,’ Raúl Martinez, EVP and Head Creative Director at Victoria’s Secret, said in the statement.
‘We are so honored to offer our platform and have it explored through the lens and artistry of global creatives who celebrate the individuality of women’s stories and perspectives.’
Chris Rupp, Chief Customer Officer at Victoria’s Secret & Co, said: ‘We are excited to introduce a completely reimagined version of the fashion show, while bringing back the very best of entertainment and fashion our customers have been asking for. We’re celebrating the iconic heritage of the brand through a new generation of artists, and we can’t wait to amplify their vision through our worldwide platform.’
The brand also released a video announcing the world tour and teasing ‘something very exciting’ on the way. It appeared to introduce some of the faces who will be featured in the movie.
It all comes several months after it emerged the fashion show would be making a comeback this year.
The news was first reported by Retail Dive following the company’s fourth quarter 2022 earnings call.

‘We’re going to continue to lean into the marketing spend to invest in the business, both at top-of-funnel and also to support the new version of our fashion show, which is to come later this year,’ revealed chief financial officer Timothy Johnson.
A corporate spokesperson told People the company is committed to championing women and is ‘always innovating and ideating in all spheres of the business to continue to put our customer at the center of all we do.’
The annual fashion show was a glamorous tradition dating back to 1995.
The televised runway not only included scantily clad models, but performances by musical guests, including Bebe Rexha, Halsey, Rita Ora, Kelsea Ballerini, Shawn Mendes and more at the last show in 2018.
The company cancelled the show and dropped the Victoria’s Secret Angel title in 2019 amid criticism the brand did not include models of all shapes and backgrounds.
Purchases by women aged 18 to 49 had been declining for several years prior to the move.

A damning 2020 article in The New York Times included allegations of misogyny, bullying and harassment by former Chief Marketing Officer Ed Razek.
It also listed concerns about L Brands Chief Executive Leslie Wexner’s long friendship with convicted felon Jeffrey Epstein prior to his death in jail.
Epstein was awaiting trial on charging of sex trafficking minors at the time.
The 2022 Hulu documentary, Victoria’s Secret: Angels and Demons, continued to focus the microscope on the lingerie brand’s corporate culture.
The three-part series included claims of body shaming, misogyny, and discomfort that the PINK line, which was aimed at tweens and teenagers, made girls feel bad about themselves.
Victoria’s Secret was separated from the parent company in 2021.
It is now looking to regain its reputation and its hold on its corner of the lucrative intimates market.
They now feature models of all backgrounds and sizes.
Tennis great Naomi Osaka, 25, has also collaborated on a collection of comfortable sleep wear and intimate wear with the designers.

The Grand Slam champ, who is expecting her first child, told Vogue it was the new commitment to inclusion that got her to come on board.
‘Actually talking to everyone at Victoria’s Secret and seeing how inclusive it was… I remember having discussions with them about how I never saw someone who looked like me before in their stores.’
‘I thought it would be really amazing to shift the view,’ she said.
Victoria’s Secret has faced competition from celebrity brands, such as Lizzo’s Yitty brand, Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty and Skims by Kim Kardashian.
