Did we miss the signs of Taylor Swift‘s breakup with Joe Alwyn???
For those who haven’t heard the sad news, the pair ended their relationship after six years of dating. The shocking news was first reported by Entertainment Tonight on Saturday, which revealed that the former couple amicably parted ways a few weeks ago. A source explained to the outlet that the breakup was “not dramatic,” noting that “the relationship had just run its course,” and “it’s why hasn’t been spotted at any shows” for The Eras Tour. The news no doubt came as a shock to Swifties. But was Taylor actually trying to subtly let everyone know about her split with Alwyn late last month?! It seems like it.
According to People on Sunday, the 33-year-old singer surprised the audience at the Arlington, Texas, stop of the Eras Tour when she switched out the song Invisible String with the track The 1 during the Folklore section of her setlist. Why does that matter? Invisible String is basically about two soulmates, while The 1 looks back on what was once had and what could have been with a lost love. It was also long believed that Invisible String was about Alwyn. And since the song made its debut, Taylor has continued playing it since! While the musician didn’t address the reason why she changed things around, she did tell the crowd at the AT&T Stadium, as seen in a video taken by a fan:
“One thing we said about The Eras Tour: ‘You think you can just go online, you think you can just scroll and know the setlist?’ Let it be said about The Eras Tour, we’re tricksy. That’s what we are we enjoy a good, healthy set list hijinks. So, we added a new song. Did you like it? Did you have fun?”
It’s no secret that Taylor loves to drop easter eggs for fans, so this very well could have been a big clue about her split with Joe! Ever since the breakup news broke, people have taken to social media over the weekend with their theories that the change to the setlist was intentional, writing:
