Following the end of her talk show ‘The Wendy Williams Show’, the gossip queen, who had been on an indefinite leave from hosting due to health issues, reveals what comes next for her.
AceShowbiz –Wendy Williams has promised her fans that they will still be hearing from her soon after her talk show “The Wendy Williams Show” officially ended on Friday, June 17. Revealing what’s next, the TV personality said that she’ll release a podcast series soon.
Following the final show, the 57-year-old gossip queen spoke to Extra TV, telling host Billy Bush what comes next for her. She told Billy that she will drop her podcast series with iTunes in the near future.
On Friday, “The Wendy Williams Show” officially concluded after 13 seasons. During the final episode, Sherri Shepherd, who has been filling in for Wendy this season, paid a tribute to Wendy. During what she called a “big day,” Sherri told the audience it was an “honor” and a “privilege” to have been tapped to guest host the program alongside other stars amid Wendy’s absence.
“You have to say, there is nobody like Wendy Williams. From her days on the radio, to ruling daytime talk for 13 seasons, Wendy earned her title as the queen of all media,” Sherri said. “If you think about it, Wendy Williams changed daytime talk with her unique take on ‘Hot Topics’, her one-of-a-kind celebrity interviews, the signature ‘Ask Wendy’ segments and, of course, y’all, her famous ‘How you doin?’ “
Sherri added, “And I wanna say: Miss Wendy you are an icon and you are loved by so many, so many.” The in-studio audience then erupted in cheers of Wendy’s name. Later, the former “The View” co-host paid tribute to the “incredible staff and crew” on the show, as well as the “loyal Wendy watchers.”
The final episode aired one day after Wendy’s ex Kevin Hunter slammed the production company behind the show for their handling of the series’ final episode. Kevin told Entertainment Tonight, “I feel like it is a travesty on the part of Debmar-Mercury to have such an unceremonious departure without Wendy being involved. It is the first time in the history of talk shows for this to be done, especially for a show that has been on for more than 10 years.”
“There is absolutely no reason why a bigger celebration that involved Wendy couldn’t happen,” he added. “I know the blood, sweat and tears that went into making the show such a success, [and] I am not happy with the way the show is going out on a personal level and I am truly sorry that the show’s fans have to see it go down the way that it is.”
Wendy had been on an indefinite leave from hosting due to health issues and had not filmed a single episode this season. It was announced that in February, Sherri will be given a daytime talk show titled “Sherri“.
