Prince William and Kate have been married for over 12 years. On her wedding day, the Princess of Wales looked stunning in an Alexander McQueen gown.
But what did the bride’s mother wear? For her daughter’s wedding to the Prince of Wales, Carole Middleton wore a coatdress in a sky blue colour designed by Catherine Walker.
Princess Diana, who died in 1997, was known to like this designer and was even buried in one of her dresses.
Carole wore a pearly blue wool crepe coat dress with matching satin piping and braiding at the waist and cuffs when she arrived at Westminster Abbey in April 2011.
She wore this over a sky-blue silk shantung day dress. Carole additionally wore a hat made by Jane Corbett, a milliner from Berkshire.

This might have been an homage to the county where she and her husband, Michael, are from. James, her son, was by her side as she walked down the aisle.
Princess Diana’s most recognisable appearances were created by Catherine Walker.
The fashion firm issued the following statement in response to the request: “We are delighted and honoured to have been asked to design a day outfit for Mrs Carole Middleton on the happy occasion of her daughter’s wedding.”
But this was not the first garment the bride’s mother had considered wearing.

At the last minute, Carole reportedly refused to put on her custom-made Lindka Cierach outfit.
Just a few weeks before the wedding, she was also said to have refused to wear her Jess Collett hat, which cost £400.
Carole allegedly accused Ms Cierach—the London-based designer best renowned for creating Sarah Ferguson’s wedding gown—of being “unaccommodating” and abruptly withdrew her services.
A fashion source said Ms Cierach was “completely bemused after all the hard work she had put into creating the outfit”.
Soon after the royal engagement was announced, the couturier was hired and instructed to create an exquisite piece of couture that would make Carole stand out from the crowd.
Kate, accompanied by her father Michael, arrived at the Abbey wearing a lovely lace ivory dress by Sarah Burton from Alexander McQueen complete with veil and tiara, and all eyes were on her.
The future Princess of Wales wore her hair half-up and half-down, which looked gorgeous above the flowing train of her dress.
Kate held a bouquet of Lily of the Valley flowers, and her younger sister Pippa acted as the maid of honour in another gorgeous Sarah Burton dress.
