AIR FRYERS are becoming evermore popular in homes thanks to their quickness, low-electricity consumption use and lack of oil use.
Here is what you need to know about air fryers and how they function.
How do air fryers work?
Despite its name, air fryers don't actually fry food at all, as hot oil isn't used.
The appliance operates something like a convection oven.
Hot air is created by a heating element, and this is then circulated around the food by a fan.
The veggies or meat you put in there are held up in the basket, allowing the hot air to move round all sides of it.
By using an air fryer than traditional frying, you can get your food crispy and browned without having to use much oil – though you may use some to stop your food from getting stuck to the basket.
Which foods can you cook in an air fryer?
You can basically cook anything you'd like in an air fryer from frozen food to cookies.

However, some suggest that there are some foods which would be best not to cook an air fryer.
That includes freshly battered foods because they create a mess and they won't be as crunchy as if they were deep fried.
If the battered food is pre-fried or frozen than that is completely fine to put it in the air fryer.
Vegetables like spinach should also be avoided because these can easily be burnt because of their thin texture.

Whole roasts are another no-go, for the simple reason that they might not fully fit in the air fryer, and you do not want to risk them being undercooked.
Cheese is another messy one, because it will melt and stick to the air fryer, and good luck trying to clean that.
Raw grains such as rice or pasta are another unless they have been cooked on the stove first.
This is because air fryers dry cook food, and if you simply put raw pasta, it'll most likely burn it rather than cook it.

According to the BBC Good Food website, air frying is a more healthy alternative to using a deep fat fryer, but food cooked using them is still classed as being fried food.
Fried food is known to contribute to type 2 diabetes, weight gain, some cancers and heart disease, so it's better to cook using them occasionally, and not every day.
