How to wash an electric blanket | The Sun

AS energy prices soar, many are turning to electric blankets to stay warm at night as they can last for up to eight hours and you won't have to rely on your heating.

This is what you need to know about washing up your electric blanket and safety.

Is it safe to wash an electric blanket?

Most electric blankets are made out of washable material and some allow you to wash them in your washing machine after removing their plug and controller.

It is always best to check the blanket's label, as the manufacturer would have put all washing instructions on there.

It will show you whether you can wash the blanket in the machine or if it's best to wash it by hand for example.

The wiring in electric blankets must be waterproof, not only so that you'll be able to clean it, but also because you give out sweat and moisture while you sleep, which is absorbed by the blanket.

Wash the blanket

Most labels on electric blankets indicate that you should wash it in a gentle, cold cycle and tumble dry on low heat.

However, some might tell you that you cannot even wash the blanket in the washing machine, so it's important to always check the label first.
