As much as I love staying on top of fashion trends, I by no means adopt every single one of them. After all, there are approximately a million: sheer silhouettes! Fringe! Bras as tops! I’ve gotten on board the low-rise jeans fad and, more recently, a corset-inspired top, but I intend to cap both buzzy trends at that. The truth is that trends come and go faster than my snack drawer, and I don’t have room in my closet nor the financial flexibility to doll out money constantly.
So while recently checking out Old Navy’s new arrivals, I landed on the High-Waisted Parachute Cargo Jogger Ankle Pants ($38, originally $55; sale price includes 30 percent off at checkout), which, like lots of the retailer’s offerings, are the perfect fusion of timeless and trend-inspired. I wasn’t sure I’d try parachute pants, but I deemed these versatile enough to get lots of use, whether lounging, traveling, or going out with friends. I added them to my virtual shopping cart in black and my usual size medium — and now it’s your turn.
I’m not surprised to share that they appear to be selling fast, so without further adieu, keep reading for everything you need to know about them.
What I Love About the Old Navy High-Waisted Parachute Cargo Jogger Ankle Pants
What I love most about the Old Navy High-Waisted Parachute Cargo Jogger Ankle Pants is their style. The loose-fitting design is a unique fusion of parachute pants and cargo pants, which is genius for those who’ve been eyeing both trends and are unsure which to covet.
They’re also the most lightweight pants I’ve ever worn, and I adore that about them. They’re super airy and comfortable, made of nylon, just like the OG designs worn in the 80s. Plus, thanks to the toggle drawstring fastening, you can adjust the fit and ensure the elasticized waistband doesn’t fit snugly or loosely.
These pants are full of functional pockets, too. They have deep, diagonal side pockets that can fit my iPhone 14 Pro (its giant case and all) on one side and my house keys on the other (with room to spare). There are also cargo flap pockets on both legs in case there are even more items you want to store on your person.
What’s Worth Noting About the Old Navy High-Waisted Parachute Cargo Jogger Ankle Pants
The Old Navy High-Waisted Parachute Cargo Jogger Ankle Pants have mixed reviews, which doesn’t surprise me, given how lightweight they are, and how they make a little noise when you move.
A small fraction of people said they’re “loud when you walk,” but in my experience, they weren’t any noisier than expected, given their nylon fabric. They definitely make a swoosh sound when you walk, but that’s not exactly avoidable, given the material.
Others found the material thinner than expected. While they’re undeniably on the thinner side, I didn’t find the black style see-through at all. Just note that if you purchase the beige or seafoam green pair, you may need to wear underwear that matches your skin tone to avoid seeing a shadow underneath.
Ultimately, what I consider perfect about these might be less favorable to you. For example: while some critiqued how thin they are, I think they’re perfect for flights and summer lounging. One shopper agreed, writing: “These are very cute and super lightweight. I plan to wear them for casual hiking and for travel (they pack down very easily).”
