I got dress-coded at work – my 'Karen' boss sent me home, people say her reason is ‘unacceptable’ | The Sun

A HAIRSTYLIST has been dress-coded at her workplace, and her online followers have been left horrified.

She detailed the shocking interaction on her TikTok account but shared a silver-lining regarding her new workplace.

Siiri Parks (@siiriparkss) has some flexibility in the dress code at her current salon.

But at a prior workplace, she was reprimanded and sent home by a superior who said her appearance was "scaring" clients.

In a video, Parks recounted the upsetting conversation and reassured viewers things are much different now.

In a dramatized flashback, Parks said she came to work one day and greeted her then-boss with a "Good morning."

Her manager's response left her confused and embarrassed.

"Um, you're not wearing makeup," her boss said. "Why are you not wearing makeup?"

Parks explained that she was experiencing an acne breakout, and she wanted to give her skin a chance to "breathe."

Though Parks felt her reasoning made sense, the boss disagreed.

"No, this is unacceptable," Parks remembered her supervisor saying.

"I'm sending you home on a long lunch," her boss said. "You're going to put some makeup on and come back because you are scaring the guests."

The mortifying experience left Parks scarred. So, when she arrived at her new workplace without makeup one day, she felt anxious.

Her current boss gently acknowledged that Parks wasn't wearing any makeup.

Parks rushed to explain that she woke up late that day.

"I figured that you would rather me be here than be late doing my makeup," she said, hoping to justify her lack of cosmetics.

But luckily, Parks has a more reasonable boss now.

"You don't need to wear makeup to be a good stylist," her manager reassured her.

In fact, she'd only asked Parks about the lack of makeup as a segue to a compliment.

The manager said she thought of Parks as a daughter, and that her youthful appearance sans makeup emphasized the effect.

"You look like a sweet little girl without makeup," her boss said.

In the comment section of the video, viewers were quick to label her old manager a "Karen."

They also cheered for the new, healthy work environment Parks has found herself in.

"This makes me so so happy that you have a good and respectful boss," a fan said.

Another said she would be "happy crying" if she were in that position.

"Current boss for the win," wrote one approving viewer.

Other women recounted their workplace conflicts over makeup.

"I showed up to work without makeup once and kept being asked if I was sick," a woman remembered.

Another woman said her boss compared her to a "dead bird" when she went without makeup.
