I live in a converted trailer – my bathroom's small and an off-grid toilet is a bit different, it sucks out the stink | The Sun

A HOMEOWNER who lives in a converted trailer has spilled the details on what it's really like when nature calls.

He said going to the bathroom is a bit different when it comes to an off-grid toilet.

TikToker @offgridpath filmed himself giving a tour of the home-on-wheels in a video on the social media platform.

"The bathroom's pretty small and that's the problem with working converting caravans is that you're dealing with quite a small space," he said.

"So we really had to think about how we're going to maximize use of the space. I don't have baths, I just have showers.

"So we knew that we were just going to have a shower, but we needed a toilet. And an off grid toilet is quite different to a normal house toilet.

He explained a design for his toilet, referred to as a "lavarette villa."

"You can see here this pipe vent goes up through the ceiling like a wood stove with the flue," he said.

"It goes up and out the ceiling and out of the roof. And that basically takes all the smells from the toilet out through there and then out into the air so the cabin doesn't stink," he said.

He shared more mechanisms of the bathroom, including what waste goes where and how to maintain it.

"We got two sections. This is for urine and then this is for solid waste," he said, explaining that he uses compostable bags as well.

He added that while the space isn't the largest, it works for him.

"That is our bathroom in our cabin, it's small, but it does the job and we're pretty happy with it," he said.

The video drew in many viewers who shared their thoughts in the comment section.

"What do you do with the bags when full?" one asked.

"Put them in the compost," he replied.
