I move from America to England – I was so confused about a crucial feature missing from bathrooms | The Sun

A CANADIAN woman who moved from America to England has revealed the things that surprised her the most about the United Kingdom.

Jackie Todd (@jackietodd_), who is originally from Canada, has racked up over 650,000 followers on TikTok with her videos comparing different cities.

She opted to move from America to Manchester in England, after tying the knot with a British man she had been dating long distance.

The expat went viral on TikTok after revealing the subtle differences that she’s spotted since leaving her life in the South behind.

“Things that confused me in my British home when I first moved to the UK,” read the text over the video.

“There are no plugs in the bathroom.

“Some houses have these plugs for shavers, but I usually end up having to do my hair in the living room with an extension cord.

“The light switches are on the outside of the bathroom.”

Showing herself sitting on the toilet with the light flashing, she continued: “I just know that if I grew up here my siblings would be doing this to me every damn day.

“The toilets are really different.

“This is an English toilet and this is an American toilet,” she said as a photo showed the difference in the water level.

Jackie said: “The water level is a lot lower on an English toilet and instead of a handle to flush there is this little button on the top.

“Oh and instead of referring to it as a restroom or bathroom it’s usually just called the loo or just the toilet.”

Commenters debated if the differences Jackie mentioned are more specific to the house that she lives in rather than England overall.

“Most houses in the UK have a pull cord for the light, it’s unusual to have a switch outside,” one wrote.

“American toilets have that button too. Not all of them but I have seen some with it,” another commented.

“Girl it depends what house you get because our houses do NOT have the same features,” a third said.

“I’m in Canada and my cousin’s house has a bathroom with their light switch outside of the bathroom,” a fourth wrote.

“My seven-year-old turns the light off the whole time.

"Some bathrooms do have the lights inside but it’s a cord not a switch,” another added.
