I slammed the phone down on The Banker and burst into tears on Deal or No Deal, says 'unluckiest ever' contestant | The Sun

A WOMAN told how she slammed the phone down on The Banker and wept after learning she had won NO cash on Deal or No Deal.

Danielle Baron believes she was among the UK’s unluckiest EVER contestants of the hit show, which yesterday it was revealed was making a comeback after eight years away from the screens.

Deal or No Deal ran for years on Channel 4, when it was fronted by former I'm A Celeb star Noel Edmonds.

It will now be revived with Stephen Mulhern as host.

The 45-year-old said he "can't wait" to get started on the show, which he will front alongside his other hits, including Catchphrase.

He explained: "I used to watch Deal or No Deal when I was growing up and I am honoured to be the new host of the show."

Single Danielle, now 39 and an educator from Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, had convinced herself she would win “at least £20k” when she appeared on it in 2011.  “I believed it would be enough money to leave my job as a teacher,” she says in an exclusive interview with Fabulous.

But in an exceptional turn of events she ended up owing The Banker £50 – something that hadn’t happened before.

She was so stunned as her then-husband took to the stage to hand over the money to Noel, she burst into tears and had to be consoled.

“I thought it was my way out of teaching,” the mum to Annabelle, 13, and Sophie, six, says.

“I had all these expectations – what would I do with my £20k?! – and they all crumbled. I was so disappointed.”

Danielle’s mum Patricia, now 80, was an avid fan of the original show and had, using statistics, worked out the average contestant won around the £20k mark.

So her daughter genuinely believed she was set to earn a hefty sum.

But Danielle was out of luck quickly when she first knocked out the £100k box and then the £250k box.

Things quickly tumbled – until she was left with nothing.

Then Noel told her she could open either the box that was left or a gold envelope.

Opening it she simply said “you always fail at games” – something she had already said about herself.

So her then-husband paid £50 and opened a gold envelope.

“It was a honeymoon… for term time,” she says.

“I couldn’t go.”

Luckily the company arranged for a small financial compensation so Danielle walked away with a bit at least.

“Now looking back I can’t believe how I behaved. Weeping, in tears… I blame my high hopes,” she says.

“And I was really desperate to leave teaching. It wasn’t the children, who I loved, but the politics.”

Ultimately she says appearing on the show was a “good catalyst” for her leaving teaching in 2016 and branching out into tutoring, coaching and therapy for children.

Speaking about what it was like behind the scenes at Deal or No Deal she says: “Everyone was lovely.

"We did 20 shows and were there for a week.

“Noel’s wife did our make-up.

“The whole audience was cheering for me although since then I’ve found out it’s appeared on the internet and watched thousands of times.

“My daughter saw it and was like ‘Mum, why are you online…?
