A WOMAN has shared how she’s managed to totally transform her home thanks to some simple interior tips she’s picked up from experts.
Valerie Chapman, who lives in New York City in America, explained that her mother-in-law is an interior designer and has been passing down her tricks of the trade to improve her home’s aesthetic.
The social media user, whose TikTok profile is @valeriechapman, posted a video titled ‘home decor things I learned from my boyfriend’s mom who is an interior designer.’
In it, she told her 16k plus followers four of the golden rules she now lives by and how they can do them in their own home too.
First up, she concentrated on the living room – in particular small coffee tables that are placed next to sofas.
She explained: “This one thing I learned is that when you have a coffee table, it should be centred with the arm of the couch.

I’m an interior designer and you’re missing a trick with keeping the heat in
I did a Walmart haul in just pink & everyone is saying the same thing
“So it shouldn’t be all the way back, or all the way forward.
“It should be perfectly centred.”
The 20-year-old then showed exactly what she meant, as she directed the camera towards her own small, black coffee table and how it perfectly complemented the piece of furniture.
Valerie continued to walk into the bathroom, as she lifted the lid on her next piece of advice.

And this one is all about a purchase that can be bought from online retailers like Amazon for as little as £5.
As she pointed to the corner of her sink, she said: “The next thing I learned is to have a little white towel folded up in the bathroom.
“So I bought a bunch of these from Amazon and I keep them in my drawer [in my bathroom].
“And then when they’re dirty, I just put them in the laundry.”
The third and penultimate thing she’s implemented is a more recent change – and has decluttered her kitchen.
Valerie explained: “I was just on the phone to her and she said, ‘You need to declutter the drawers in your kitchen.’
“So we went through and emptied about half of the stuff in there.
“You only want utensils that you actually use and are of good quality.”
While Valerie’s final tip – as given to her by the interior designer – is about how to make the most of the cushions on your couch.
She revealed: “You want to make sure that the seam of the pillow is on the bottom at all times.
“And, of course, you have to puff and you have to fluff.”

Calling in her boyfriend to help her demonstrate how to fluff a pillow properly, Valerie said it’s all about the ‘chop’ method.
This is when you use one hand and hit directly in the centre of the top of the pillow to create a stylish dent.
