I was sick of boring doors ruining my hallway so gave mine a glow-up for £50 – people say they look like real barn doors | The Sun

A DIY pro has revealed how she gave her boring hallway a glow-up by making her own chic sliding doors – and it only cost her £50.

Marcia showed followers how she added some panelling and a bargain barn door kit to totally transform the doors in her home.

And people are loving the final result, with others vowing to follow suit.

Known online as @myhomegoals, she regularly shares interior design inspiration and DIY tips with her 18,400 followers.

In a new TikTok reel, she said: “If you’ve got a plain old interior door and you’d like to convert it to a barn door, I’m going to show you how.

“First you take your door off the hinges. Remove the hardware from the door frame and fill it with sandable wood putty.

“Do the same with the door jamb, and also the hinge side on the door.

“Let that putty dry and then sand it down. In the meantime, you’ll work on the door itself.

“Cut two by twos to attach to the top and bottom of your door. This will give your door more height which it needs in order to sit on the track properly.

“You’ll then cut one by four’s the length of your door and you’ll add these to the sides.

“Look how nicely the one by four covers up the whole from the door knob.

“Hold this in place using some liquid nails. Then you’ll measure and cut some 1 x 4s for the horizontal parts of your door.

“Measure these so that they’re spaced the way you’d like for them to be, then secure everything in place using a nail gun.

“Caulk the gaps between your wood pieces, and also along the inside where the food touches the door itself so that everything will look seamless.

“Next step is to paint, add your barn door hardware and hang your door.

“I hope you love your new door!”

Shoppers can pick up everything they need from retailers like B&Q, Sainsbury's and Amazon.

The 2 x 2s and 1 x 4 panels of wood will set you back just £4.97 and £6.47 each at B&Q, while a caulking gun is just £3.40 at Sainsbury’s.

Sandable wood putty is available to order at Amazon for £5.45, as is a sliding barn door kit, with prices starting at £30.59.

Fans loved the crafty idea, with the video gaining more than 43,600 likes and 1.5 million views.

In the comments, TikTok users shared their reactions, with one writing: “Greattttt.”

“Doing mine tomorrow, I can’t wait, super excited,” commented another.
