I was sick of peeling paint on my garden fence so I gave it a spruce up – now my neighbours are threatening legal action | The Sun

YOU could be the world's most talented gardener and have flowerbeds to rival Buckingham Palace – but if your fences are looking run-down, it can really ruin the look of your outdoor space.

So after two years of living in her little rented house, this woman decided to give hers a much-needed spruce-up – but it hasn't gone down all that well with her neighbours.

Sharing her dilemma on Reddit, the anonymous woman explained how she already had a strained relationship with the couple next door over their "illegal" dog cage.

After recently reporting them to Animal Protection, the woman feels as though the "angry, spiteful" couple have been waiting to get revenge on her.

As part of her recent garden renovation, the woman decided to paint her patio and her side of the shared fence – which was already peeling off.

Considering how the couple had recently painted their side too, the woman didn't think it would be an issue.

"You did not ask my permission or receive approval to alter it.

"Please be advised that I will give you one week to change the fence back to its original colour or I will be forced to contact the owner of the property you are renting and pursue legal action if its not resolved."

Unsurprisingly, the woman went straight to her landlord – who she says "backs her 100 per cent."

She wrote: "I will not abide by these demands. If my neighbours want to pursue legal action all the power to them.

"I will continue to advocate for the neighbours dogs well-being as permitted by the law and continue to be true to my reasonable kind neighbourly ways."

What's more, other members of the forum argued that the couple didn't have a leg to stand on anyway.

One replied: "You should determine if the fence is on the property line and look up your local bylaws for fences.

"There's a decent chance your landlord owns half the fence and so you can paint it as long as he agrees."
