I’m a bartender and here’s how to get stronger drinks every time you order – there’s a trick to being served first too | The Sun

EVER wonder why you're being totally ignored when your try and order drinks at the bar?

A bartender has revealed the controversial reason why, and his customer service method has left people divided.

In a video posted to his TikTok account (@romansparkles) Roman, from Michigan, said it's all about how much a customer tips.

Roleplaying as a customer, he asked: “Hey, how come I can’t get no service?” The bartender then explained: "Oh that’s because you haven’t tipped all night.

He explained that he prioritises customers who tip well, so if the bar is busy customers who don't tip at all might be ignored for a while.

"What happens is that when you don’t tip, we tell the other bartenders who is not tipping so we don’t go to you," he said.

According to the bartender, the key to speedy service is to not only tip, but tip well.

It all depends on how much money you're spending in the first place as to what your tip should be, he explained.

"If you tip at least ten percent we’ll come to you, you tip 20 percent or more we’re going to make sure we get to you," Roman said.

But if you really want strong drinks and fast service you could tip even more – which people pointed out could end up costing a fair bit.

Roman joked he would knock other customers out of the way to serve anyone who tips more than 50 percent.

Not everyone agreed with his service system though, and some TikTok users slammed him for ignoring customers who don't tip, since it's still part of his job.

"Imagine if you just fairly and sequentially served drinks to people in the order in which they arrived a the bar," one person commented.

"Sorry but your tip is based on service," a second said.

Another wrote: "You want 50 percent for grabbing a beer and cracking it open and passing it to me? No."

And someone else commented: "So this is why my local was was acting like they didn't see me all night!"

Meanwhile, other bartenders chimed in, agreeing with Roman's divisive method.

"It's true, If you don't tip me you get served last, good tippers get served first. It's how it works," one said.

Another agreed: "Of course we serve people who tip people who don't. It makes sense."
