WHEN life gives you lemon, make lemonade….
Actually there's quite a few things you can do with lemons and it’s a lot more than just making lemonade.
It turns out you can use lemons to clean all around you pad on the cheap.
We spoke to cleaning expert Lynsey Crombie also known as the 'Queen of Clean' to learn the secret ways you can use lemons to clean your home.
You may recognise Lynsey from the show Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners, after growing an Instagram following online she is now an author of four best-selling cleaning books.
The cleaning fan says she first came about more sustainable as a cleaner 15 years ago.

“I used to clean an old people's complex 15 years ago. The resident had big apartments and needed help with their cleaning.”
“I walked into one old lady’s complex with all my cleaning materials. She looked at me and said ‘Your not bringing any of that in here. Grab some lemon’s vinegar and bicarb and get to work.”
“I had to find a way to clean her whole apartment with just those three products – I was taught at first but them I went home and researched all the ways you can use these budget products to clean.”
“There are tons of great products out there but sometimes it’s much simpler and cheaper to go back to your roots.”

Lynsey says: “There is so much you can do with a lemon, they are a great chemical free cleaner. If you are looking to nab some cheap lemons make sure you wait till the end of the day and buy them in bulk.”
“Yellow sticker lemons will usually be priced at around 20-10p for three or four lemons. Keep any leftovers you have for cooking and salads.”

What are some cheap and easy ways to use lemons to clean your home?
Wooden chopping board
“If you’ve been cooking with half a lemon don’t throw it away! Use it to clean you chopping boards.
“Sprinkle the board with salt and squeeze the lemon slightly. Then work the juice in with a circular motion around your board. When your done simply wash off with water. This will keep you board smelling fresh”
Dishwasher cleaner
“Don’t forget to clean the thing’s that clean for you. Dishwashers come into contact with their fair share of smelly odours, use a lemon to freshen them up.”
“Pop half a lemon in the top tray of your dishwasher. This will bring back the sparkle to the inside of your dishwasher and your stainless cutlery as well as cut through smells.
Kettle Descaler
“Don't bother spending a fortune on a chemical descaler – all you need is a lemon. Boil some water and slice up a long then just in it in your kettle. Add some lemon juice and leave it for half and hour.”
“And you don't have to bother with the hassle of cleaning out the lemons the same way you would descaler.”
Tap limescale remover.
Just like your kettles kitchen and bathroom taps cam build up limescale from hard water – now we’ve all heard of the white vinegar method but the lemon method is way easier.
“Grab half a lemon and screw it onto the bottom of your tap. It will be a bit of a struggle at first. Someone told me they used tape to secure it last time. You’ll want to leave it there for 20 minutes to get the job done.
Shower screen cleaner.
“If your shower screen is built up with limescale and soap scum, use half a lemon and some salt as an abrasive cleaner.”
“Let the mixture sit for 20 minutes before washing off with water and make sure you buff dry with a microfiber cloth.”
Clean your microwave

Place some sliced lemon in a bowl of water for 10 minutes in your microwave. Grab a cloth and use the steam to wipe away food spills or stains. Plus this will make your home smell amazing!”
“If you’ve used a lemon already, peel some of the skin and leave it in the bottom of your kitchen bin to help trap smells. This will also work well in your fridge. ”
