I'm a cleaning whizz & swear by a 65p ingredient that cleans my fridge AND banishes gross smells in an instant | The Sun

EVER opened your fridge only to be greeted by a horrible stench?

Getting rid of anything that might've gone off is always the first step, but one cleaning whizz has revealed the clever way they help banish smells and save money at the same time.

According to End of Tenancy Cleaning Service using baking soda to clean your fridge won't just banish grim smells, but it can also help it run more efficiently too.

All you need to do is rub baking soda and warm water into the shelves and interior of your fridge, then make sure to rinse everything off.

But why stop there? Cleaning pro Ivan Ivanov also told the Daily Record how homeowners can make sure their fridge isn't costing them a fortune by giving it a deeper clean.

He explained: "Taking 15 minutes and cleaning your fridge’s coil will make a big difference to energy efficiency because too much dust there would require your fridge to work harder to get to food-safe temperature, without releasing the heat properly."

To clean to coil all you need to to is remove the panel at the back of the fridge and hoover up any dust.

Ivan explained a good clean could make other appliances in your home more efficient too.

Even though Air Fryers are generally thought of as a cheap way to cook grub quickly, a dirty Air Fryer is good to no one.

This is because they take longer to heat up, which will cost more money in the long run.

Ivan said: "Using a soft sponge and some standard household soap, remove the tray from the air fryer (once cooled) and use your finger to gently scrub all available areas."

According to the keen cleaner you might also want to clean your kettle before your next brew.

Descaling your kettle with an even mix of vinegar and water and boiling it before rinsing should do the trick, Ivan explained.

And making sure your oven is free from grease and grime is also a must for the cleaning pro, who explained that heat distributes more evenly in a clean oven, meaning it cooks food faster.

He also recommended giving your taps and drains a quick clean as well.

He explained: "Because most household taps are metal, corrosion through extended usage can occur.

"Use warm soapy water and a soft microfibre cloth instead of a scouring pad as this will rub off more metal and cause your tap to rust."
