A WOMAN has shared the common reactions she gets working as a vicar.
Reverend Anne Beverley works at Christ Church, Wesham, where she often hosts morning prayer and performs baptisms.
As someone who feels this is her calling, she loves her line of work.
But she’s often faced with confusion over being a vicar as a woman. And now, she’s posted a video on TikTok to expose the common phrases she hears.
“Things people have said to me as a vicar…” she wrote over a clip of herself in full clerical clothing.
Standing at the altar with her hands outstretched, she gave the camera a quizzical look before displaying the different phrases on screen.

“Are you a real vicar?” one phrase flashed above her head.
Another accusatory sentence she’s heard is: “Women can’t be Priests”.
Laughing it off, she danced it to Alexis Jordan’s hit song Happiness.
A third phrase then flashed above her, saying: “You are too pretty to be a Priest,” while the next one read: “Do you have to be a Christian to be a Priest?”

A final accusatory phrase she’s often heard then came on, which read: “You only work one day a week…”
Shrugging her shoulders and laughing it off, she wrote in the caption: “Love my calling,” with a red heart emoji.
People were quick to comment on the post as one person asked: “do you get any vicar of dibley jokes?” to which she replied: “Yup!” with two laughing emojis.
Another shared: “You are without a doubt the coolest priest I’ve seen in tiktok”. [sic]
A third wrote: “not particularly religious but I’m proud of my heritage, if the church wants to stay relevant it needs to catch up to the 21st century. Well done !” [sic]
A fourth said: “Wholesome, cool and made me smile… Thank you,” with a heart emoji.
While a fifth admitted: “lol I asked a female vicar once if she also was a real vicar,” followed by several laughing emojis.
