I'm a freebirther – I had all nine of my kids at home in different positions… my four-day labour was orgasmic | The Sun

A FREEBIRTHER has insisted childbirth can feel "orgasmic" and slammed people who tell women what position they should take during labour.

Yolande Norris-Clark asserted that women know what position they want to give birth in by instinct.

If in the right frame of mind and without people telling them what to do, Norris-Clark believes women can have "orgasmic" birth experiences.

The mum-of-nine has birthed her children in a range of positions and decides which one to adopt during active labour.

Her most recent labour was four days long and "totally pain-free".

Her retaliation comes after a short essay circulated on social media saying it is not natural for women to give birth on their backs.

The 42-year-old said in a blog post: “Did you know that since the beginning of humanity, women have intuitively given birth in every position imaginable?

“From standing, to squatting, to side-lying, to lying on our backs, to sitting up supported by a chair or another surface.”

The positions Norris-Clark has given birth in include sitting on her tailbone in water, on all fours and lying flat on her back.

However, as she is a freebirther, she goes through pregnancy and childbirth without any medical involvement.

The family-of-11 live in Nicaragua, South America, including Norris-Clark's husband of 15 years, Lee Clark.

Her ninth and most recent baby was born in a small jungle-based house and was 300km from the nearest hospital.

The freebirther mum recalled: “His birth occurred four days after my water broke.

“The entire four-day experience was utterly peaceful, totally pain-free, and orgasmic even, and I moved through the waves alone.

“Until my husband came into the room during the last five minutes.

“My child’s head was born – ecstatically – while I was laying on my back, which, again, as always, is the position I instinctively took.”

Norris-Clark added that she “surrendered” to her birth experiences “without thought or premeditation”.

The NHS calls freebirthing an unassisted birth.

However, it recommends having a midwife with you if you choose to give birth at home.

Its website reads: “Talk to a midwife if you are worried about your care.

“They can discuss with you the role of the midwife and help you make an informed choice and personalise your care and support so it’s right for you.

“If you decide to have an unassisted birth, you can change your mind at any time during your pregnancy or labour.

“NHS midwives will always be available to support you.

“A midwife can offer you support and advice during labour, and check on the health of you and your baby.

“They'll know if you or your baby need help, and can arrange for medical attention if needed.”

Free Birthers in the UK need to tell their GP or local maternity services as soon as the baby is born so someone can come out to confirm the arrival of the child.

This is because by law every birth in the UK needs to be recorded within 36 hours.
