WITH spring finally approaching, that means it’s time to get ahead and start prepping your garden for the warmer months.
The experts at GardeningExpress.co.uk want to make that easy for you, so they put together a list of ten outdoor tasks to tackle in March.
Chris Bonnett from GardeningExpress.co.uk said to grab your rubber boots and garden gloves and get to work.
“Spring is just around the corner, and if you want to have a gorgeous garden then you should start working on it now,” he began.
“The days are getting brighter and longer so it’s a perfect time to keep on top of weeds, prepare your soil, and start nurturing your lawn.”
Depending on where you live, there are a couple tasks you might want to put on the back burner for now.
“If you find there’s still some cold snaps where you live then you may want to put off certain jobs like planting summer bulbs.
“There’s still plenty to get on with though, like cleaning your patio and tidying your lawn.”
PLANT SUMMER BULBS
If you know that those really cold days are behind you, you’ll want to start planting your summer bulbs.
Spring brings warm soil, which makes it a good time get those flowers going so that come summer, your garden will be bloomed and beautiful.

GET WEEDING
More plants mean more weeds, so the Springtime will bring a lot of them. Tackling them early, however, will help keep them from fully sprouting.
KEEP SLUGS AND SNAILS AT BAY
Slugs and snails are not unlike us – well, at least regarding their love of warmer weather. Take precautions now by scattering slug and snail pellets around your yard.
PREP THE VEG PLOT
What good is a garden if you don’t have fresh veggies to pick for your salad?
Begin priming your soil now by adding enrichments like bark, manure, and grass clippings – as vegetables grow best in this environment.
ROCKET POTATOES
Because rocket potatoes are easy to boil, it’s convenient to have a stash growing in your yard.
And unlike other varieties of potatoes, these can be planted at the end of March – so get to it.
PLANT ONIONS
As for another vegetable you can incorporate into your summer picnic menu, onions should be planted this month as well.
They require warm, fairly dry soil, meaning you’ll get a nice harvest by the late summer months.
STRAWBERRIES
To be well-rounded, you’ll want to have some fruit in the yard as well. Strawberries make for a versatile option – think about the frozen drinks, salads, and desserts you can make with a solid bunch.
Planting them now means they’ll be ready in the early summer.
But as the experts warn, be sure to pick them as soon as they turn bright red because once ripe, they don’t remain fresh for too long.
REFRESH POTS
If you want to breathe new life into your potted perennials, take out the top layer of compost and replace it.
DON’T NEGLECT THE LAWN
An easy but often forgotten task to check off your list is to tidy up your lawn.
Prepare new areas for sowing grass, get rid of unwanted moss with moss killer or lawn sand, and make sure the grass looks even.

CLEAN THE PATIO
Winter brings dirt and grime to your patio, and it’s time to clean it all up.
Use a jet wash, or simply mix water and vinegar and scrub with a garden broom, so that your seating area is charmed up and ready for entertaining.
