MORE and more women are opting for hair transplants as a way to straighten and strengthen their hairlines.
But doctors have warned there is a lot of misinformation surrounding the procedure.
Experts at Qunomedical have weighed in on the treatment and answered all the burning questions you want to know about putting your scalp under the knife.
According to the surgeons, “a lot of female patients think a hair transplant and hairline lowering surgery are the same thing”.
However, they are two totally different procedures with different results.
“Regarding technique, hair transplants involve the transferring of grafts, whereas hairline lowering is a full procedure,” the experts explained.

“Also known as forehead lowering, hairline lowering surgery is a cosmetic procedure which seeks to "lower" an individual's hairline, restoring a more youthful appearance.”
On the flip side, hair transplants are the “best option for hairline restoration”.
Female celebrities who have had hair transplants include former Love Island star Rosie Williams and supermodel Naomi Campbell.
As hairline lowering surgery is a major operation, it can require an overnight stay in hospital.

“It is often for patients with high hairlines, thin hair at the hairline, or their hairline is not even,” Qunomedical docs said.
“Patients also often seek hair lowering surgery to counteract a brow that is too large relative to the rest of their face.
“In this process, the incision is made from one ear to the other meaning the scalp is lowered and slight scars can occur.”
Hair transplants include extracting individual hair follicles from the back of your head and placing them into the hairline.
This procedure does not leave a scar on the scalp as the skin isn’t being sliced open.
What’s more, the docs warned that ALL types of hair transplants require your head to be shaved – even the “no-shave” versions.
“It is now no longer necessary to shave your entire head to have a hair transplant,” they said. “This is thanks to the evolution of modern hair transplant techniques.
“However, while the top of the head is left as it is, the donor area is always shaved.”

The donor area refers to the section of the scalp where the hair follicles are being extracted from, and is usually at the back of the head.
Generally, when most clinics refer to no-shave hair transplant, it means only the back and sides need to be shaved.
