I’m a laundry expert – my washing hacks help your clothes last longer & save you cash… your tops will never shrink again | The Sun

A LAUNDRY pro has revealed the top reasons why your clothes are shrinking, fading and ripping in the wash.

It's probably down to some silly mistakes you were never told how to fix.

Kellsie Zapata who runs a cleaning service called Zapata’s shared the common errors in a TikTok video online.

She asked: “When you are doing your laundry your clothes seem to shrink, fade or even rip?”

“Not all laundry is made equal before you do your next load of laundry. Let me share a few simple tips that can make a big difference to how your clothes come out of the washer and dryer.”

Firstly protect your sweatpants strings by tying them before they go in the wash.

Kellsie said: “The drawstrings in sweatpants, pyjama bottoms and hoodies can come out of their channels during the wash cycle and it can be pretty annoying trying to put the string back through the hole.”

“You can prevent this by loosely tying drawstrings together before you put them in the washer and the dryer.”

Darker garments, especially dark jeans should always be turned inside out when they go in the wash.

Kellsie said: “Turn dark coloured clothes inside out before you put them in the washer. This allows the detergent to get to the inside of the garment and protects our surface from fading.”

If you’ve had socks go walk about after laundry day consider getting a mesh bag.

They will only set you back a few quid and save you load of time matching up socks.

Kellsie said: “Use a mesh laundry bag to keep socks together – this is an easy way to keep your socks together saving you time from having to match them up.”

Always dry your clothes in cooler temperatures to avoid shrinking your garments.

The laundry pro said: “Don't dry your clothes on high heat. It's the fastest way to ruin a garment, shrink the fibres or shrink your clothing item after one earring stick with a low or medium heat setting.”
