WITH the cost-of-living crisis affecting households up and down the country, chances are you won’t have much spare cash to splurge on Christmas presents this year.

If you are feeling overwhelmed at the thought of buying gifts this festive season, fear not, you’ve come to the right place. 


We spoke to Gemma Bird, also known as the Money Saving Mum, to get her recommendations for the great items that would make lovely gifts this Christmas.

So whether you need to buy for your child, a partner or even a grandparent, Gemma has shared her top present recommendations, with something for everyone. 

And don’t worry, you won’t need to spend a fortune and break the bank on luxurious gifts, as these presents are all available in shops on your local high-street. 

Gemma gave us her Christmas present recommendations from The Range, B&M, Poundland, Home Bargains and Dunelm.

The 40-year-old mum-of-two, who lives in Billericay, Essex, lives mortgage-free in a four-bedroom detached house, drives a Range Rover and jets off on multiple holidays a year to plush resorts in Mexico, Lapland and Dubai. 

But Gemma isn’t an heiress or a lottery winner – no, she’s achieved this comfortable life despite never earning more than £25k a year. 

The money-saver previously told Fabulous: “I’ve never earned more than £25,000 a year. I live and breathe deals. I don’t care how much money you have, people always love a bargain.

“I’ve saved every solitary penny since the age of seven. I once managed to save almost £10,000 on a £12,000 salary thanks to my must-know hacks.”

Gemma has a whopping 298k Instagram fans and has shared her super-saver wisdom with Fabulous. 

The money-saving expert counts Stacey Solomon as a fan and told us about the bargain Christmas presents that you should buy from high-street stores this year.

Gemma explained that you don't need to spend hundreds of pounds on fancy Christmas presents, as you can find amazing items on the high street. 

Gemma told Fabulous: “Remember that when you are looking for gifts in this climate, they don’t have to cost the Earth.

“Look for gifts that are meaningful – plus, there are loads of good deals on the high street right now”. 

Oral-B Pro Rechargeable Toothbrush from B&M

The first item that Gemma recommends for a great Christmas gift, is the Oral-B Rechargeable Toothbrush.

You can currently pick up this toothbrush, that is originally £60, for just £24.99 from B&M.

Gemma said: “The rechargeable toothbrush is a great idea because obviously everyone loves those as a gift and you always need to clean your teeth

“It’s a really good make and a really good price as it’s on sale”.

So if you are looking to start your Christmas shopping, whether it’s for your mum, boyfriend or child, Gemma has the high-street recommendations that you need. 

Wooden Dolls Highchair from B&M 

The second gift that Gemma spotted and recommends as a great gift, is the Wooden Dolls Highchair – another bargain from B&M. 

If you’ve got a little one, this highchair is a great buy and is currently only £12 in the sale.

Gemma added: “I think that looks like a really high-end, boutique-looking chair.

“People would never believe the price you paid for it”.

Swan Slow Cooker from Home Bargains

If you are looking to buy a gift that is a bit more practical, the Swan Slow Cooker is bound to impress. 

Originally £39.99, you will save £15 on this slow cooker, that is only £24.99 in the sale.

Gemma was very impressed, as she said: “At the moment, with the cost-of-living crisis, this slow cooker is a really good buy.

“They’re a lot cheaper to cook with and it will make a great present”.

Yankee Candle from Home Bargains

But if you want to get someone a lovely candle to make their home smell amazing, Home Bargains have loads of that too.

Gemma spotted a great Yankee Candle in the bargain retailer and was stunned that it was on sale for just £9.99, from £25.99.

She said: “Yankee Candles are really expensive so people will think that you’ve paid £20 or £25 but this is only a tenner”.

Bath Crayons from Poundland 

If you’re looking for something to fill a child’s stocking, Poundland has a whole host of great buys.

Gemma was particularly impressed with the Bath Crayons, which are only £1 for a set of six.

She explained: “Bath crayons for £1 – they make a great stocking filler for kids.

“Plus, kids love doing things in the bath and they will wash off too”.

Jess Wright Beauty Cosmetic Headband from Poundland 

If you want to treat someone to a bit of luxury, but without breaking the bank, Poundland has a Jess Wright Beauty range that is worth checking out.

The money-saving mum loved the Cosmetic Headband that she spotted in Poundland, that is only £2.50.

She explained: “You could get this hairband for your sister, your auntie, your mum – it’s a nice stocking filler.

“It’s great for a teenage daughter too”.

Wooden Kitchen from Dunelm 

If you are looking to buy your child something that will keep them entertained for hours, Dunelm has got you covered.

Gemma was shocked when she stumbled upon the Wooden Kitchen that is just £40.

Gemma expressed: “I think this kitchen is great for a young child, either a boy or a girl.

“It’s a great price and looks really good quality – plus, they’ll play with it for years”. 

Harry Potter Kid’s Scarf from Dunelm

If you are really looking to get a bang for your buck, the Harry Potter Kid’s Scarf from Dunelm is a great bargain buy.

It’s only £10 and is certain to put a smile on your child’s face this Christmas.

And finally, if there’s a woman in your life that is looking into hair removal, but is only a beginner, the Braun Silk Epilator is a great buy.
