WHEN redecorating and upgrading a home, it’s easy to get ahead of yourself and skip crucial steps in a project.
But this can often lead to unforeseen issues that you might need external help with to fix.
Now, one professional has shared the top mistake he sees people make during their DIY job. Are you guilty of doing this?
Scott Barney explained that his biggest pet peeve is when people don’t prep before getting started.
“Dear DIYers, I love that you’re giving it a go, you know, painting yourself,” he said, starting the clip.
Chipping the paint away from a windowsill, he continued: “But the biggest bit of advice I’d say is to prep things properly.”

Describing the steps you need to take before picking up your paint brush, he said: “Clean down, sand up, dust off and paint.”
He then zoomed in on himself scraping the white paint off the windowsill as he explained that people “don’t want this to happen”.
“As you can see, the paint just hasn’t stuck to anything,” he went on. “So prep before you paint.”
People were quick to comment on the video as one person complained: “But doing it properly takes so much longer,” followed by a crying emoji.
