MOVING into a new home can be both exciting and stressful whether you're renting or buying a property.
But one expert has provided a helpful list of things you need to do when you move in to make life easier.
Glen Russell shared his tips in a TikTok video online.
He said: “Things to do when you're moving into a new home.”
Most of us will have heard of the first one and it’s changing your locks after you move in.

The next tip is just as important – changing the toilet seats, no one want to sit where someone else's bum has been.
Glen also said: “Change your address on all your documentation like your driving licence and make sure all of your mail is reposted to your new address.”
Postal services have a very helpful redirection services so you can have your mail redirected from your old property to your new one while you sort everything out.
Glen warns you must register for your council tax.

He said: “Trust me they will find you if you don’t pay it.”
The property pro advised you: “Take metre readings and make sure you're not paying for someone else's usage for your utilities.”

While you're checking that start: “Booking your broadband and make sure your Wi-Fi is all set up so you can use it straight away.”
Try and find out which day is bin day and if in doubt look at what your neighbours are doing.
Above all, make sure you check that everything works from lights to taps.
Glen warned: “Check all the boundaries – if you’ve got pets or children and make sure you don’t get an escapee.”
When it comes to unpacking, have an unboxing plan.
Glen says: “[This is] basically all the things you will need essentially [in one place], not loads of other stuff otherwise you’ll just have loads of trip hazards.”
He said: “Make sure you check where important things are like water valves, circuit breakers, fuse boxes.”
“You don't want to be searching around at night time in the pitch black trying to find these things.”

You should also be prepared to get some rubber gloves and some bleach and give it a really deep clean – you don't want to be living in other people’s dirt.”
