I'm a royal style expert – these tricks are how Kate Middleton prevents blisters, knicker lines and walks in heels | The Sun

EVER wondered how Kate Middleton always looks like the picture of perfection?

It turns out the Princess of Wales, 40, has a number of fashion tricks that she uses to ensure she always looks flawless in public.

Royal fashion expert and celebrity stylist Miranda Holder revealed some of Kate’s best style and beauty tricks that help her put her best fashion foot forwards..

1) Get a good hole punch

Miranda said that one item Kate’s stylist Natasha Archer will always keep in her styling kit, is a leather hole punch that can be used to ensure belts and shoe straps fit perfectly.

Miranda said: “Like all of us, Kate’s weight can fluctuate a little, and her waist can get even tinier, so being able to punch the odd extra hole to ensure she is fully cinched in can be an invaluable move when achieving the perfect silhouette.

“Likewise if a shoe is particularly high (and let’s face it, Kate has a terrific shoe-drobe), having an extra hole in the shoe strap so it feels even more secure can make the difference between a wardrobe moment and a wardrobe malfunction.”

2) Wears three different shoe sizes to prevent blisters

The Duchess of Cambridge buys three sizes of shoes in order to avoid blisters when her feet swell, it has been revealed.

The mum-of-three has purchased her Jimmy Choo 'Georgia' pumps and 'Vamp' sandals in a British size 5.5, or European 38.5.

However, she goes up to a size 6 – or a 39 – for L.K. Bennett's 'Agata' sandals, and even down to a size 5 – or 38 – for Rupert Sanderson footwear.

It has been suggested by Hello! that she opts for her heeled sandals in bigger sizes because she is more likely to wear them in warmer months when her feet might swell.

This is the very same reason Fabulous fashion expert Harriet Davey believes Meghan opts for roomier heels too.

"Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they're at an event or on the red carpet and it's for one reason we can all relate to – to avoid blisters," she explained.

3) Keep your chin parallel to the ground

Miranda shared a trick Kate uses to look stunning in every single photo.

She said: ''Kate has simply been trained to always keep her chin parallel to the ground.

''She doesn't tilt it down, she doesn't tilt it up – and that ensures a flattering photograph every single time.''

4) Tame your tresses with a hairnet

Ever wondered how Kate always looks immaculate, even with an undo in a strong wind?

Miranda said: “Look very closely and you will see she almost always wears a discreet hairnet, which keeps her thick silky locks under control all day long.

“It's a great hair hack, and hairnets are so good these days you can hardly see them.”

5) Customise clothes

Miranda said that Kate is no stranger to getting her clothes altered to suit her needs.

She explained: “Whilst many looks are made bespoke, she will still have alterations made to suit if required – a zip removed here, a hemline lowered there.

“Sarah Burton even famously added padding to the hip area of her wedding dress to make her waist appear even tinier.

“No matter the original cost, getting your clothes altered so they fit you perfectly ensures you always look immaculately turned out.”

6) Non-slip tights to stop shoes slipping

The royal mum uses a handy hack to ensure her feet never slip out of the footwear and the tights don't slide all over the place during an event.

Eagle-eyed fans have observed that the Princess of Wales wearing sticky pads inside her heels on multiple occasions – and this little feature helps to secure the feet inside the shoes.

The best part? The genius solution doesn't cost a fortune either – you can grab it on your local high street for just £6.

The must-have, non-slip tights from John Lewis cost just over a fiver and come in a range of colours – black, tan and nude.

For extra comfort, the tights have extra Lycra that give them more stretch.

7) Wear monochrome

Instead of wearing an array of colours, Kate has mastered top to toe dressing in a single hue.

Miranda continued: “This creates a bit of 'regal drama' and a striking visual effect so that the Princess can easily be spotted from afar.

“What’s more, it’s incredibly elongating and flattering for the frame – a handy slimming trick we can all make use of.”

8) Never leave the house without fashion tape

Kate may have Natasha as a stylist but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have wardrobe mishaps.

Miranda said that sartorial errors are mostly avoided with “fashion tape” and called it a “royal handbag essential that handily steadies wayward collars, closes gaping plackets, prevents hosiery from laddering and can even help to secure a slippery shoe.”

She said: “Once you’ve tried it you won’t be able to live without it.”

9) Keep micellar water handy for make-up gaffs

We’ve all been there, makeup can sometimes rub off onto our collar or lapels as we go throughout the day.

But for a Princess of Kate’s calibre, marked clothing is simply not an option.

Miranda said: “Keeping a small bottle of micellar Water on hand is an easy solution to makeup stains on clothes – just pop some onto a tissue and the pigment will melt away before your very eyes, restoring your outfit to the pristine condition you left the house in.”

10) Wear leather insoles for comfort

We hardly see royals in anything other than heels.

But we all know how painful they can be, so how does they manage to wear them throughout long royal engagements – all while keeping a smile fixed on their faces?

According to a Vanity Fair article – which was first published in 2015 but has recently been doing the rounds on the internet again – Kate uses Alice Bow insoles.

The brand's website describes its leather insoles as being "designed to cushion the ball of your foot and heels, whilst being thin enough to fit unnoticed into any shoes".

11) Seamless underwear

Kate has a secret style trick for ensuring no unsightly bra straps or knicker lines are on show.

According to royal etiquette expert Myka Meier, the royal relies on strapless and seamless underwear to give a polished look.

Myka told Fabulous: “There are a few options to hide bra straps, with one option being a bra that is actually sewn into the piece.

“A second option is strapless shapewear, which is a one piece that either snaps at the bottom or has legs attached.

“You can buy them in almost any skin tone so they appear transparent and don’t show through clothing.”

12) Weighted hems

Kate works hard to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions, and one secret to making sure her skirts and dresses hang straight is by adding some weights to them.

It’s said to be common practice for royal women to have tiny weights added into the hems of their outfits to ensure they hang perfectly – and to try and stop them blowing up in the wind.
