I'm a savvy mum – the super simple way to keep your home warm that takes five minutes and it'll help with condensation | The Sun

A SAVVY mum has taken to TikTok to reveal a super simple window hack to help keep your home warm – and it takes just five minutes.

Shauna, known online as @homediydiary, revealed that by tightening the locks on their uPVC windows, people can stop drafts coming in and warm air from slipping out.

She said: “If you have draughty uPVC windows, try this.

“Open the window to access the lock and use an Allen key to turn the lock clockwise.

“This moves the lock backward so that when you close the window, you will get a much tighter seal.

“If the seals on your windows are in pretty good shape, then that should prevent the air leak.

“I know firsthand how intimidating home maintenance can be if you’re not familiar with it because I put this job off for years, not realising what an easy fix it could be.

“With a little help from Google, of course.”

Although not all were convinced this is a good idea, with another TikTok user writing: “If you’re doing this, you can probably say goodbye to your mechanism in a year or two and be paying for it to be replaced.

“Also, more pressure on your handle, so more pressure on the gearbox through the spindle.”

Others shared their own tips, with another adding: “I brought some sponge strips off Amazon and fitted them in the window.”

Someone else put: “Try cleaning the profile and the seals first. Then fit a compression wedge.”
