COLORS are the essence of ambiance, and if you choose the wrong palette, you may end up with a cheap-looking, uninviting atmosphere.
Luckily, interior designer Arvin Olano laid out eight suggestions for making your home look expensive on a budget, with a focus on a three-color rule.
Arvin is known by his followers to always give his honest opinion.
His knack for designing lush styles prompts his advice to largely be well-received.
In a recent YouTube video, he goes over eight cheap tips which will instantly make your home look more luxurious.
Tip #1: Fix your color palette.

"The easiest way to make your home look luxurious is to make sure you have a cohesive color palette," Arvin explains.
Instead of rushing into choosing your color palette, Arvin urges viewers to follow his "three color rule" first.
You need to choose three base colors. He uses brown, beige, and ivory as an example.
Then, once you have your three colors, only add items that are different shades of those colors.

"As long as it's in the same family as your main color, you will be fine," Arvin argues.
"You want the colors to blend seamlessly."
This means you shouldn't try and match everything to be the exact shade of your three colors.
Tip #2: Add a metallic accent.
Don't go running to buy mirrored metallic decor, look for furniture that's made of brass or chrome.
"You don't want to overdo these metallic finishes. Accent pieces are meant to make your spaces come alive," Arvin explains.
If you fill your home with bright gold and shiny silver, then the space will look tacky.
These accents should be "touches" all over.
Tip #3: Update your lampshades.
"I think there's nothing more telling than an old lamp shade," Arvin admits, and it's telling people the room is way too outdated.
Find shades that are simply structured and detailed.
"I love a good empire lamp shade," Arvin says.
Tip #4: Up your thread count.
"Luxury can also mean a feeling of comfort, and an easy way to do this is to update your bedding," Arvin continues.
Your duvet should be voluminous so your bed doesn't look flat.
Lightweight comforters make the bed look plain and empty, while ultra-weight comforters give it extra fluff.
Tip #5: Add high contrast.
"When you're adding these high contrasted pieces in your home, you're creating eye candy," Arvin explains.
You can add high contrast with color and contrasting styles.
Mixing modern furniture with antique decor will instantly elevate the space and add the contrast you want.
You can combine modern with rustic or feminine with masculine as well.
"In interior design, you always want to create that friction, that tension between materiality and colors. That's how you create depth, dimension, and a luxurious-looking space," Arvin notes.
Tip #6: Opt for simplicity.
Simple design is always better than adding busy decor pieces.
Tip #7: Make sure your home smells good.
When you walk into a room, the smell will catch your attention first, most of the time.
Arvin suggests using candles, spray, or his favorite: diffusers.
"Just make sure your house smells good because if it's bad… agh, oh god, no, because it doesn't matter how luxurious your furnishings are if it smells bad," he warns.
Tip #8: Invest in the pieces you use every day.
Whether it's your couches, kitchen tables, or faucets, Arvin says it pays off to splurge on those and save on other smaller decor pieces.
Your cheaper, more affordable pieces will look more luxurious next to the pieces you invested in.
Arvin's advice was a hit amongst viewers.
"I love how you make it accessible by comparing the interior style tips to regular style and things people can understand in other parts of their life," a viewer wrote.
