IF YOU live in a rented house or flat, there's only so much you can do to make it feel like home without changing it completely.
Luckily, this interior designer shared some of her top tips for making it look loads more expensive, but wont ruin your chances of getting your deposit back.
Kristen McGowan shared her clever tricks on her YouTube channel and they're a must if you're home is begging for an upgrade but you need it to be renter friendly.
Change outdated hardware
Whether it's on your kitchen cabinets or your bathroom vanity, if the hardware is old it can completely ruin a room.
You can get new hardware from Amazon which come with all the screws you'll need too.

Add curtains
Sometimes in rental properties there are some things that don't look that great but you can't get rid of them.
The interior design whizz recommended adding in a tension rail, so there are no holes, and adding in a curtain to cover whatever you don't like.

Remove cabinet doors
If your kitchen is begging for an upgrade but your landlord wont fork out the cash for it, Kristen revealed a simple way to give it a more modern look.
She explained that removing some kitchen cabinet doors you can give the space a much more modern look.
she said: "It creates an entirely new look and is great for anyone that thinks their renter kitchen is tiny."
Just remember to store the old doors somewhere clean so you can pop them back on before you move out.
Use stick on wallpaper
Kristen said: "Peel and stick wallpaper is simple, removable and there's so many different styles to chose from.
She explained that you can use it on entire rooms, or just on on one wall to make a statement.
You can also get peel and stick tiles for your kitchen backsplash which can update your kitchen too.
Change the lighting
One thing you can change in most rental properties is the lighting.
An outdated light fixture can ruin an otherwise nice room, so taking it down and putting up something that is more to your own personal taste can make a massive difference.
Kristen said: "If you're living with an ugly chandelier or something that's ruining the style you're after, just consider changing it."
Add a rug
While you probably can't change the entire flooring, a large rug can instantly transform any space.
Whether it's a running in your hallway or a rug to cover the entirety of your living room floor, "don't underestimate a rug," the pro quipped.

If you want to hang some cool wall art or even mirrors in your rented home but don't want to deal with filling in the holes when you leave, consider just leaning it against the wall instead.
Kristen explained that if it's done properly it can look really chic and expensive, especially if you layer a few different sized frames together.
