AN interior designer has lifted the lid on the three types of tiles that he would never choose or recommend for a bathroom shower.
As he opened up on the reasons behind his decisions, he warned that one is such a nightmare to clean that you’ll instantly regret it.
Meanwhile, Phoenix Grey, who goes by the social media name Design Daddy, slammed another tile style as looking like it belonged on the US subway.
In a video posted to his TikTok account @mrphoenixgrey, Design Daddy introduced what he was going to be talking about, as he said: “The worst tile options for your shower that I would avoid as an interior designer.”
He then started with the first home looks that he despises, pointing out that the “imperfect zilliage tiles” that are all the rage at the moment won’t remain that way for long due to a very practical reason.
The TikTok star went on to explain to his 699.4k followers: “I get it, they’re very trendy right now. They look super cool.

“But I want you to think about the water and the grime build-up in your shower – and you’re going to hate cleaning them so I would avoid them at all costs.”
Up next, Design Daddy didn’t have great things to say about the typical white builder grade 12 by 24 tiles – a popular choice in people’s bathrooms due to price and ease.
He pointed out: “These were super affordable and they were easy to put in everywhere.
“The problem with these tiles is that they offer no personality to the style of your shower, or even the bathroom aesthetic overall.”

He then said that although the “large format tile gets close to a seamless look”, it doesn’t hit the right mark.
Phoenix explained: “In the end, they end up looking like larger scale subway tiles, which I’m not a fan of.”
But the interior expert offered up a helpful alternative and said the same “seamless” look can be achieved using a 30 by 30 tile with a matching grout colour.
The third and final tile no-no on his list that he said he would “avoid at all costs” is what he describes as “accent tiles.”
These are the mosaic type tiles that are used to break up a larger amount of plain coloured tiles.
Design Daddy went on: “[They] were huge in the 90s and 2000s – everyone thought this was the hottest.
“Doing this visually stunts the height of the room – you’re adding this extra horizontal line that visually breaks up the space and adds more clutter.
He concluded: “Adding in a super busy accent mosaic tiles really do not add the personality and flair that you thought they did.”
And it seems that his social media followers agreed with his observations.
