I’m ditching overrated Christmas tradition – there’s a way better alternative and it’s cheap as chips | The Sun

A SAVVY mum of two has called on patents to ditch the Christmas Eve box trend for a better alternative.

AmyLeigh Cavanagh, from North Ayrshire, spotted a video online about a ‘December box’ and decided to put her own twist on it.

The idea is to have a treasure trove of goodies to last youngsters the whole month rather in the build-up to Santa coming.

The TikTok star, 32, who goes by girl_mum, reckons her daughters Alea-Jay, 11, and Aria, seven, will love their surprise.

She said: “Over the last couple of weeks on TikTok I’ve been seeing a lot of creators and mums talking about this idea, instead of doing a Christmas Eve box, do a December box.

“When I first seen it I thought it was such a good idea. Why isn’t this a thing?

“We give the kids Christmas Eve boxes, Christmas Eve jammies, activities, drawings and stuff like that

“And then the next day they get presents and the Christmas Eve boxes are completely forgotten about.

“It’s not Christmas after that and the pictures and drawings aren’t relevant anymore.

“And Christmas cups they get are only going to be used for another couple of weeks and jammies only worn until January.

“So I thought this idea of a December box rather than a Christmas Eve box was amazing.”

AmyLeigh then took her followers with her to Home Bargains where she shared clips of her bargain hunting skills.

She spent £2.99 on the box itself and decorated it with tinsel and bows.

The mum added: “I went to my favourite place in the whole world, Home Bargains, and started hunting for things to put in this December box.

“This is so cheap to do. Home Bargains is unreal. I was picking things up for 70p and things like that.

“You do not need to spend a fortune to make a really good December box. You can do little activities.

“I’m going to print off a checklist of Christmas movies we will watch, Christmas games,  Christmas activities.”

Her followers absolutely loved the idea and said they’d be doing it themselves.

One wrote: “What a great idea, I am most definitely going to do this.”

Another added: “It makes so much sense.”
