Inside Mystic Meg’s tragic romance with millionaire she was ‘destined to marry’ as last horoscope makes sweet prediction | The Sun

FOR decades lovelorn Sun readers turned to Mystic Meg horoscopes hoping for a romantic prediction.

But Britain’s most successful psychic, who died today aged 80, never found her own happy ever after.

She fell in love with millionaire football pools heir Nigel Moores and believed he was her destiny after reading in her own horoscope, aged seven, that she would marry a wealthy man.

But deeply private Meg was left utterly heartbroken after Nigel was killed in a car crash in the south of France in 1977, aged 39.

She never remarried and lived out her days with her seven cats at her Notting Hill home.

Her late mum Millicent Howard once told how Meg believed Nigel was her one and only.

She said: “They were always holding hands and kissing.

“She thought he was the man her horoscope had predicted when she was a child.

“She was very upset when he died. I believe he is the reason she never married. She is still looking for another Nigel.”

Meg’s agent Dave Shapland said: “In all the time I knew her there was never another man in her life.

“She gave the impression of being a recluse, living on her own with her crystal ball and seven cats for company. That was the reality. She was a very private person.”

As the heir to the Littlewoods pools dynasty, Nigel was worth £9million when he died – equivalent to £48.4m today

Before meeting Meg, Nigel was said to be a notorious playboy who was previously married to doctor’s daughter, Jean Murray.

They divorced after 12 years in 1972, before Nigel met Meg.

Meg had the star sign Leo – and perhaps her final horoscope published in The Sun predicts her finally reuniting with Nigel.

It reads: “It can be the most routine of routine journeys that takes you towards your soulmate – and you may not realise this straight away.”

Brief fling

After Nigel died, Meg had a brief three-month fling with David Jones, who was the editor of raunchy magazines Men Only and Club International.

They met after Meg pitched a short story to the mag while working for the cookery section of Woman’s Realm.

In 1996 he – perhaps rather ungentlemanly – told all about his affair with Meg to a newspaper.

Meg also suffered tragedy in her childhood after losing contact with her dad, a dashing RAF radar operator named Bill Lake.

Her wed her mum Millicent six months before Meg was born following a wartime encounter.

Mum and baby moved in with Millicent’s parents Ann and William Howard in their terraced home in Accrington, Lancs, while Bill was away during the second World War.

By the time her husband was demobbed in 1946, Millicent had fallen for a BBC engineer and demanded a divorce.

Meg never got to know her father growing up and his family were shocked to later discover she was the mystic on the National Lottery show.

She never gave interviews, even to editors she worked for, but once penned a piece describing why she loved her cats so much.

She wrote: “All cats are psychic.
