The beginning of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s courtship will be dramatised in the sixth season of The Crown when the duo met at university. The Prince and Princess of Wales met at the University of St Andrews in Scotland in 2001.
A pair of boots that Kate was often seen wearing during her university years were her Penelope Chilvers long tassel boots in conker brown leather.
New pictures have been released showing Meg Bellamy, the actress playing Kate Middleton, wearing these exact same Penelope Chilvers boots.
Royal fan @molllyelizabeth tweeted: “The Crown’s costume department has gone into so much detail with Kate they’ve even got her in the Penelope Chilvers boots.”
Kate has owned these shoes for the last two decades, having first worn them at the Game Fair at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire in 2004.
Kate last publicly wore them in spring 2021, proving that they are still a staple in her wardrobe.
The Penelope Chilvers tassel boots have a slim and sophisticated silhouette because they are cut close to the ankle. Near the zip, they have a scalloped detail.
These boots still sell on the Penelope Chilvers website for a whopping £475.
The description says: “Our original (often imitated, never surpassed) Penelope Chilvers Tassel Boots in sustainably sourced Spanish leather are the epitome of luxury.

“Exclusively cut for us close to the ankle for a more feminine fit with a scallop detail at the zip panel and a leather tassel on the zip pull.
“These handmade boots are partially lined in deerskin with a Goodyear Welt rubber tread sole.
“Perfectly styled and wonderfully practical – these boots are made to last.
“Our Tassel Boots (as worn by HRH Catherine, Princess of Wales) encase the leg beautifully giving a sleek, leg lengthening and elegant silhouette.”
The description added: “Penelope had spent time in Spain, learning the language and working closely with an artisan to learn the boot-making trade.
“After commissioning the artisan to make Penelope the perfect Spanish riding boot – to her own specifications – taller and closer fitted at the ankle, the Long Tassel boot was born, a core style and firm favourite in our collection year after year.”
Kate even wore these sturdy boots trekking in the Himalayas for four hours.
The Princess most often wears these brown tasselled boots with casual, outdoor clothing.
Penelope Chilvers even sells a children’s version of the Tassel boot, which Princess Charlotte wore in Kate and William’s 2020 Christmas Card picture.
These boots are worth £259, with the following description: “As seen on the royal Christmas card, Princess Charlotte has the same impeccable taste in boots as her mother.
“Now even the youngest amongst us can be super-stylish too! Our Mini Tassel boots are made in the same artisanal way as our classic women’s Tassel boot collection, even down to the distinctive Penelope Chilvers tassels.
“These adorable leather boots have the warmest fleece lining, full exterior zip fastening – that makes it easy for little ones to get on and off.”
