Kate’s Coronation look will ‘fit the bill of our demure future Queen’

Fergie explains plans for King’s Coronation

King Charles and Queen Camilla’s Coronation is now three weeks away, as the celebrations will begin on May 5 but the official crowning ceremony at Westminster Abbey will take place on May 6. Royal fans are keen to see what dress Princess Kate will wear to the once-in-a-lifetime occasion, and one fashion expert has explained what she believes Kate will wear on Coronation day.

Miranda Holder is an acclaimed stylist who has worked with celebrities such as singer Boy George and actress Vanessa Williams. She is a fashion expert who has built up a social media presence on both TikTok and YouTube speaking about royal fashion and explaining the meaning behind some of Princess Kate’s iconic outfits.

In an exclusive interview with the Express, Miranda predicted what she believes Kate may wear to the Coronation of Charles and Camilla based on some of Kate’s most famous outfits in the last year.

Miranda said: “She’s going to wear an incredible gown. My money is either a Packham, or a McQueen, as they seem to be the two she ends to turn to for these occasions.

“She’ll definitely have it modified to suit her, that is something they often do, is they’ll take a design and then make it even more modest so that Kate fits the bill of our demure future Queen.”

Fashion expert Miranda continued: “What is interesting is in terms of how much she is going to stand out, how bright her outfit will be, or if she is going to tone in and hold back a bit like she did at Commonwealth Day in her royal navy, which was pulled back and so the emphasis was away from her.”

Kate wore a navy dress suit on Commonwealth Day this year, which featured white floral patterns on it and was designed by Erdem Moralioglu.

However, Miranda explained that on St Patrick’s Day this year, Kate broke her usual fashion tradition of wearing green, as it was a day she was being honoured by the Irish Guard’s new honorary Colonel-in-Chief.

Miranda said: “Whereas if you look at St Patrick’s Day, she wore teal and really stood out this year, which I think was all planned because if you look at the photographs, she pops because, of course, it was all about her on that occasion because she was taking over as Colonel.”

The stylist said Kate’s Coronation outfit will depend on if the Princess of Wales decides she wishes to stand out that day. Miranda said: “I’m in two minds because obviously, this is absolutely all about Charles but equally she is the poster girl of the Royal Family, and she has been positioned as the next Queen, so I suspect she will coordinate with Camilla.”

“Let’s say Camilla is in a bright blue then Kate might be in a slightly darker blue or something like that, blue is always their favourite colour.”

As for Kate’s hair, Miranda said she predicts the Princess “will wear it up and it will be more traditional” but the fashion expert also had a prediction for the tiara Kate may wear.

Miranda said: “My money is probably on the Lover’s Knot tiara, but to be honest I would love to see something a little bit different from her.”

The Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara was one of Princess Diana’s favourite tiaras which she was often seen in and wore on her wedding day

The tiara was not seen publicly after Diana’s death in 1997 until 2015, when Kate began wearing it to formal royal occasions.

Miranda added that Kate’s white dress with black gloves she wore to the 2023 BAFTA Awards is a look she hopes the Princess will be inspired by for coronation day.

The fashion expert said: “Those black gloves, I know they were really controversial, but I think it was a stroke of genius because they were unexpected. They got us talking and they made the outfit quite different and very standout.”
