My brother-in-law named his dog after me – I want to adopt a pig & name it after him but my husband says I'm 'too sensitive' | The Sun

A WOMAN was fuming after her brother-in-law named his pet dog after her and was smirking with the family when she asked about it.

The woman was so furious that she considered adopting a pig in order to name it after him in retaliation.

She explained that she was humiliated but her husband just brushed her off saying she was being "too sensitive".

Taking to Mumsnet, she said: "My brother-in-law retired early at 50 about a year ago and his son and his wife that live in the same house decided to get a dog. This was about a month ago.

"They've named the dog the same name as mine and I found it very insulting.

"My husband said they have always loved my name and this is why they have done.

"My husband is saying I've always been too 'sensitive' and a 'hypocrite.' E.g. I often take the p*** out of the brother-in-law and his wife but as I said only when the two families are alone.

"I'm seriously embarrassed, hurt and fear others finding out about this and mocking me."

The woman was so hurt that she had even considered retaliating by naming another animal after her brother-in-law.

She said: "I was looking at adopting a pig online and naming that pig my brother-in-law's name but had second thoughts about it as this will make the situation worse."

She added: "As I type I'm getting angry and hoping the dog poo's all over their new sofa suite that is made from fabric and not leather and won't be easy to clean as it's white. They keep a very clean house like us and I know that will hurt them, I hope."

Fellow Mumsnet users were quick to jump in with their opinion on the bizarre situation.

One person said: "I would find that insulting. The smirking suggests they're looking for a reaction though so probably best to ignore and take the high road."

Another said: "I can't believe that anyone thinks giving a dog the same name as a family member you see regularly is OK."

A third said: "For gods sake… there are millions of names in the world. Clearly naming it after [you] is weird and designed to cause some sort of reaction."

Another said: "Well they've done it for a reaction which you've given them by asking them about it, but they're the ones who are now stuck have to use your name multiple times per day. It sounds like you all need to grow up. And I feel very sorry for the dog."

But not everyone agreed that her in-laws were in the wrong.

One person said: "I don't get why it's a big deal.
