A LANDSCAPE and gardening whizz has shared his five tip magic gardening recipe that instantly kills crabgrass.
No harmful chemicals were used in his garden hack he said. It wasall organic and not harmful to your plants.
In his professional life, our gardening expert had come across this pesky plant a lot: “Let’s talk crabgrass," he said.
He works for Grand Dunes Landscape and Maintenance, South Carolina, and has found several ways of getting rid of this unwanted grass.
In his YouTube post, he went through his garden-friendly approach.
“Crabgrass thrives in a condition that has low levels of calcium and phosphorous, high levels of chlorine, magnesium, and potassium," he explained.
Then he launched into how he sorted the problem out.
“One of the organic ways is simply this, iodized salt," he said. "This will actually rob it of the water."
Second on his list was white vinegar: "It will change the pH of the soil making it more acidic, [therefore] making it unfriendly for the actual crabgrass," her wrote.
Next up was trusty baking soda. This will also change the pH, he explained, but in this case, making the soil more alkaline.

"You can pour this right onto the crabgrass, add a couple of dashes of the salt, or you could do the salt and the combination of the vinegar."
His fourth recommendation was rather more dramatic and unorthodox.
“You can use a torch method," he said, holding up a Matt gasket. "Basically burn the center and the grass."
Number five tip on his list was a very simple one.
“Another method is to cover it with a small dish. [Or] use old tiles and place them over the crabgrass. Once you rob it of sunlight it’s another way to kill it."
Follow any of his tips, he urged, and you will see a difference.
“You can do a combination of all these [and] you will save yourself a ton of money organically treating the crabgrass."
But he signed off with a warning: “If you take care of it before it goes to seed, you don’t have to worry about the thousands of seeds that a mature crabgrass will produce that wants to take over your lawn."
Commenters were grateful for the tips.
“This is an excellent video, thanks a lot. This info is priceless," was the reaction of this viewer.
Another said: “Thank you for the video brother. Will try all the methods in different parts of my backyard."
“I have a small cute lawn and need to do this organically. Love the ideas so I’m going to try, thank you so much," responded this fan.
