Nike still won't sell a Mary Earps shirt – but you can buy this one instead

The World Cup final didn’t go quite how we’d hoped – but a stand out moment was the heroic penalty save by Lioness goalie Mary Earps.

Spain’s Jennifer Hermoso was no match for our Mary, Queen of Stops. And her battle cry of, ‘F**king yes! F**k off!’ only made us love her even more.

The iconic save no doubt contributed to her being awarded the Golden Glove of the tournament, and is yet another reason why football fans up and down the country want to don Mary’s shirt.

And now, you finally can – sort of.

While football fans, and Mary herself, have blasted Nike’s ‘hurtful’ decision not to sell a replica of her shirt, it’s sparked a response from an Oxford based record label.

Taking to Twitter, Alcopop! warned Nike that they would produce their own shirt if they sportswear giant didn’t action – and now they have, with all profits going to charity, Football Beyond Borders.

The baby pink, long sleeved jersey is designed by illustrator and Lib Dem councillor, Rhi Lee. It features a play on Nike’s famous slogan, with the word ‘just did it’, emblazoned across the chest.

Writing on their Twitter account, the label said it was ‘disgusting’ that a replica shirt hadn’t been released, and called Mary ‘a true hero.’

The upset over Mary’s unreleased shirt has been ongoing since the start of the World Cup. After mounting pressure, Nike responded to the backlash with a statement. ‘We hear and understand the desire for a retail version of a goalkeeper jersey,’ the statement read. ‘We are working towards solutions for future tournaments, in partnership with Fifa and the federations.’

Despite the tournament now being over, there is currently a Change.org petition demand a shirt be made, which has over 86,000 signatures.

The Alcopop!shirt is available for £15, and you can buy it here.
