People are just realizing what the slit in your hammer is for – and it's not just for removing nails from the wall | The Sun

A CONTENT creator has left DIYers stunned after revealing that the back of a hammer can be used to hold a nail.

The influencer said he wasn't aware of the hack until he was in his 30s and it involves using the slit on the tool.

Sidney Raz (@sidneyraz) carefully placed the nail into the slit before lining up his first swing.

With just one swing of the hammer, the nail was wedged securely into a wooden plank.

Sidney captioned the clip, which has been liked by almost 2million viewers: “A lifetime of pain in my thumbs realized.”

TikTokers have been left mindblown by the trick, and some said they wished they were aware of it sooner.

The back of the hammer is often used to remove nails from wood.

Dad-of-four Russ Joy said he had been “crushing” his fingers for years, adding: “Why didn’t anyone teach me this.”

Joseph Flake said: "That's something I didn't know about until I was in my 30s!

"I've been smashing my thumb trying to hammer nails or sharp screws."
