Racegoers wow in elegant florals at Royal Ascot as they brave the wet weather

Royal Ascot is the pinnacle event of the summer season and racegoers have dug out their finest attire for the first day of the event.

Guests have been spotted queueing for entry to the Berkshire racecourse in a range of bright colours and floral patterns.

In true racing style, many women opted for vibrant hats and bold designs – with one person spotted in an elaborate feathered boater.

While some arrived on foot, others were seen rolling up to the grounds by horse-drawn carriage.

Despite the drizzly weather, peep-toe heels and summery pinks appear to be the go-to style for the famed event.

One couple pushed the boat out entirely with coordinated blue and yellow outfits.

The man opted for a comedic sequin Fedora hat topped with a teddy bear engraved with “Royal Ascot” on the paw.

Meanwhile, his female companion wowed in a vibrant a-line dress and strappy sandals to match.

Other guests opted for more low-key outfits with men in full suits, and women in long floral dresses.

A popular style worn by multiple guests today is a pink and white midi dress in a floral pattern with a ruffle hem.

Statement hats and fascinators to match are hard to miss as guests queue to enter the Queen Anne enclosure.

Some racegoers stepped out in more glamorous attire with fuller skirts and stiletto heels.

Smart black top hats were worn by male Ascot guests, with many styling formal tailcoats to match.

While many channelled their inner royal for the regal event, some may brush shoulders with the Royal Family later today as they join the crowds.

Former equestrians Zara Tindall and Princess Anne are likely to attend the first day of the event.
