AIR CONDITIONING is a feature most of us wish for during the warmer days – but there are ways to cool down a hot room without expensive equipment.
As Brits are set to be baked in the hottest ever June, bedrooms and other living spaces will become almost as hot as ovens, making it almost impossible to fall asleep or relax.
While not everyone may have air conditioning or fans to cool down, there are plenty of other cheap and effective methods to try, The Express reported.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Dan Rudman, said: “Temperatures will rise through the week, becoming well above average by day by Friday when many parts of the southern half of the UK are likely to reach 30C or even 33C in isolated spots.”
Apart from switching the air conditioning on, keeping windows and doors open throughout the day is another common alternative – but it's not always possible, especially when you're stuck in an office.
So what else can you do when marinating in an unbearably hot room?

CREATE A CROSS-BREEZE
When the weather's hot outside, it's important to move air through your house by having air flow in one side and out of the other.
To do this, open windows on opposite sites of a room – but remember that opening two windows on the same side of the house won't be as effective.
For rooms with just one window, another alternative is to keep the door open.
This will allow a cross breeze to form from elsewhere in the house.

ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES TO A MINIMUM
In the modern-day world, it's virtually impossible to spend your day without watching TV – especially now that Love Island is back – charging your phone or working on your laptop.
But as essential as they are, electrical appliances produce a lot of wasted energy in the form of heat.

Avoiding the tumble dryer and instead hanging your laundry outside to dry is another great alternative.
KEEP CURTAINS AND BLINDS CLOSED
As sun is at its hottest during the day, you should get in the habit of closing your curtains and blinds before heading out.
Open the windows fully and shut the curtains – this will allow a breeze without the added warmth.
Where possible, stick to dark or blackout curtains or blinds to prevent the rays from overheating your room.
COOK OUTSIDE
Kitchen is one of the hottest rooms during summer, especially when it's in use and you fancy a pasta bake that requires switching the oven on.
Comparethemarket.com said: “Appliances such as hobs, ovens and kettles produce a lot of heat.
“Try to cook outdoors on a BBQ or camping stove if you have one to reduce the need for excess heat indoors.”
SPRITZING YOUR FURNITURE
One of the quickest ways to cool down any room is spritzing your furniture with cold water.
For this, simply grab a spray bottle and fill it with water before leaving it in the freezer for 30 minutes.
Once done, generously spritz soft furnishings for a quick and an effective fix.
USE A DEHUMIDIFIER
Whilst technically using an air dehumidifier won't bring down the temperature, it will make the space feel cooler.
This is because humidity in the air can cause a room to feel a lot warmer than it actually is, so using this device can make a significant difference.
FILLING THE ROOM WITH PLANTS
It is no secret that plants are a great addition to any room – and you can never have too many of them either.
