Sophie steps out in two dresses but some fans brand her first look too casual

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh is a royal style icon and never fails to impress when it comes to fashion.

Yesterday, Tuesday June 27, the Duchess stepped out in not one but two iconic looks.

First, Sophie attended the grand opening of the Charfleet Book Bindery in Canvey Island.

She channelled Kate, Princess of Wales in an Alexander McQueen creation, the Belted Asymmetric Wool and Cotton-Blend Twill Midi Wrap Dress.

The army green dress is currently priced at £2,190, and combines “impeccable tailoring with utilitarian style”. Underneath the dress Sophie wore a plain white T-shirt.

She accessorised with the Sophie Habsburg LUISA handbag, priced at £220, and ‘Shilo’ Brown Leather Pumps by LK Bennett, both of which the Duchess has been spotted in before.

However, while the Duchess did look chic, several royal fans did not approve of her choice to pair the McQueen dress with a white tee.
_emmahurley_ stated: “Not a fan of the t-shirt or the bag – they belong with a much more casual outfit.”

@melissakrauskopf added: “I don’t like it with the Tshirt under it. It gives the whole thing an odd look.”

@hammondjrm commented: “I bet she’d look great if they lost the T-shirt and tailored the dress so the V wasn’t so deep!”

@miss_flora.g stated: “I’m sure Sophie has nice arms and could wear this without the white tee… she doesn’t even have bad style but she struggles to put things together properly and is often too casual.”

Sophie’s second outfit of the day was a Beulah London dress, which she wore to The King’s Award For Enterprise Reception at Buckingham Palace.

This was the ‘Christina’ Floral Dot Dress, priced at £450, a long-sleeved midi-dress with a “beautifully lightweight feel” and “featuring delicate buttons and a frilled high neck”.

The number cinched Sophie in at her tiny waist and was very flattering on her enviable figure.

Royal fans were more impressed by the second outfit. @aimmee said: “She is beautiful and this one is definitely one of her fav dresses.”

@talesofthewales said: “I have always loved this dress.” @alison_lou agreed: “Agree! It’s got it all, dots and flowers. Love it on her.”

Sophie went for an up-do hairstyle on both occasions, a loose bun with a centre parting in the day and fastened with a chic black clip in the evening.
