Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh is a style icon who has looked fashionable and fabulous throughout her entire time in the royal spotlight. Back in 2005 she rocked a pretty risqué look by royal standards, although she was not the first or last to.
Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh looked absolutely stunning at a Dyslexia Institute Awards Dinner almost a decade ago.
On November 9, 2005, the royal bride stepped out at The Dorchester alongside celebs such as Ronnie Corbett, Jackie Stewart, Lady Stewart and Bill Wyman.
She wore a sensational floor-length red dress featuring sequins under the bust, around the waist, wrists and on the shoulders.
It boasted a plunging V-neckline and cinched in at the waist to accentuate her enviable figure.
But the most notable aspect of Sophie’s dress was certainly its sheer panels.
The bust area was covered with a thick red material while the surrounding areas were made from a thinner, sheer material.
The material around her midriff was very thin and showed off the Duchess’ slim figure.
Her sleeves were also sheer, highlighting Sophie’s toned, sculpted arms.

As for accessories, Sophie didn’t go overboard but went for a more minimal look which let her bold dress do the talking.
She went sans necklace on this occasion but opted for a chic pair of gold studded earrings, a spectacular diamond brooch and gold rings.
She carried an off-white clutch bag in one hand and in a perfectly monochromatic style move, wore a pair of vibrant red pumps with pointed toes.
Nowadays Sophie’s hair is longer and buttery blonde but in 2005 she rocked above-the-shoulder dirty blonde locks.
As for makeup the royal went for a barely-there look, featuring a dewy glow foundation, a sweep of mascara and dark lip lipgloss.
Sheer was a pretty bold fashion choice for the event considering Sophie’s royal status.
While it’s a very popular modern look, it’s not something we tend to see on Queen Camilla or the late Queen Elizabeth II.
However, both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have been spotted wearing sheer clothing on occasion, as well as Zara Tindall.
Back in April 2016, Kate Middleton wore the Saloni Mary Flocked Chiffon Gown at Kensington Palace.
It featured a semi-sheer plunging neckline and sleeves, also both were covered in polkadots.
In her pre royal days, Meghan Markle stepped out at The Isabella Blow Foundation Presentation of Fashion Blows wearing a burgundy number.
At the Toronto event in October 2014, she donned the Burberry Prorsum Belted Crinkled Silk-Crepe Gown, also featuring a sheer neckline.
Way back in 2004, Zara Tindall experimented with sheer clothing at ‘La Dolce Vita’ charity dinner and concert as part of the Grand Prix Weekend.
She opted for a white and pastel pink floaty dress, featuring a plunging neckline and sheer halter-neck straps.
