NOW that we're firmly past the dragging months of late winter there's no better time to start looking forward and thinking about how you might want to shake up your hair for 2023.
A good hair cut and colour that's bang on trend is a seriously straightforward way of not only improving your look but your mood too.
Every year hair trends change and it can be difficult to keep up to date.
So to give you a head start, we spoke to Stéphane Ferraira, senior colourist at Live True London to see what you should be asking your hairdresser for this year.
Plus, how to make sure your cut and colour lasts as long as possible by looking after your hair at home.
I Just Woke Up Like This
It's safe to say that 2022 was the year of the bouncy blow dry but 2023 looks set to put that in the rearview and embrace bedhead styles which are all about texture.
Stéphane says: "We've already started seeing a lot of slept-in blow dries and three-day old waves."
And the best part is, these kinds of styles are really easy to maintain at home.
All you need is a styling spray like Colour Wow Style on Steroids Performance Enhancing Texture Spray and a pomade like OUIA Matte Pomade and you're all set.
Side Parting
The middle parting has been the centre of attention (see what we did there) for the past few years, but for those of you that could never quite get on board with this more severe parting then you'll be delighted to hear that the Y2K inspired side parting is ready for a resurgence.

"As seen on the runway for SS23, we're expecting to see a side part rise in popularity again," says Stéphane. "This perfect for those wanting to try something new with their hair without reaching for the scissors or bleach."
Celebs who are already sporting the trend include Miley Cyrus. To make sure it stays put, use a hair spray like Moroccanoil Strong Hold or for a sleek take opt for a gel like It's a 10 Miracle Firm Hold Styling Gel.
Your Colour But Better
This year is going to be all about enhancing your natural colour, whether you're a dark brunette, white blonde or warm copper.
The trick is to adjust the tone of your natural colour rather than opting for a complete change.
Stéphane predicts: "We're expecting to see natural colours ruling 2023, especially with a rise in brunettes. Whether that's a natural looking balayage or a deep and dramatic tint, we're excited to see brunettes have more fun.
"As well as the resurgence of natural colours, we've already started to see a number of toned down, lowlighted blondes this winter, and we expect to see this trend well into next year. It's easy to maintain and looks gorgeous and natural – perfect for blondes looking tor return to the dark side."
Buttery Blonde
Copper had a bit of a moment in 2022, and if you jumped on that trend and are now finding that it's growing out, buttery blonde is the one to ask your hairdressers for this year.
"This stunning buttery shade will be everywhere this spring. It's almost but not quite strawberry blonde, making it perfect for copper hair lovers looking to switch things up for summer.
"It works well on a number of hair tones, especially as a balayage on darker brown hair," says Stéphane.
Hydration is key whenever you colour your hair so use hydrating masks like the icon that is Olaplex No. 8 or Kerastase Genesis Masque Reconstituant Hair Mask.
But what's inspiring these trends? Stéphane says: "Skinification of hair is causing a lot of attention to be paid to how you look after your hair, which is in turn resulting in natural hair colours and low maintenance trends. Clients are looking for easy-to-wear hair colours and styles that won't cause too much damage, as well as premium hair care to look after their locks."
And if you're wondering what he's seeing in salon, the answer is copper. "It remains popular in salons, with clients asking for everything from full head copper to balayage and in every shade."
So if you didn't quite brave it last year, there's still time to give the warm, standout colour a try.
